Nice try but the con mantra that we're a republic is usually followed by the assertion that anybody who says we're a Democracy is either stupid or a communist or whatever
And yet that still doesn't change the fact that we're a republic. Actually a constitutional republic with democratic elements to be exact.
Both together don't make any sense. They can't both be true
A, We're not a democracy B, Thomas Jefferson once said “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
And yet both of the above are standard con yapping points
It was Alexis de Tocqueville that said, "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

Yes, he never said it. But cons think that he did say it and that's what matters in this case

According to your synopsis, this then = that it must make sense to stick it in a light socket simply because you attributed the quote to the wrong person
