Here's a better proposal - if you paid federal taxes then you get to vote. If you didn't then tough **** - because if you aren't paying for the government, then why should you get a say in who runs it?
We need to return to suffrage based on the concept of "skin in the game". Maybe be a property owner too. But at the very least, you've got to pay into the system to want to have a say in governing. Otherwise, what the hell? Why is it your right to dictate something that you're not even contributing to?
Everyone who works pays federal payroll taxes.
Everyone who drives a car pays federal gas taxes.
Everyone who owns a telephone pays a federal excise tax.
I used to own a house. Sold it and am now a renter, by choice, as are a number of retirees. Are you really saying that I shouldn't be allowed to vote?
The Feds withhold money from states that don't comply with various "initiatives." This is nothing new, so your idea that they might directly penalize citizensis ridiculous. I bet the 1500 people who bypassed this thread thought so, too.
I don't think being stupid is a reason to prevent people from voting. When people see that the Antartic Ice shelf is gone in 2020 or so, why should that make them think? After all, there will be plenty of oil and smog around to financially make up for the lost coast line.
Don't tell me this is a rediculous poll because FEMA has already started to target residents of those states that do not believe the Holy Book of An Inconvenient Truth.
So, should residents of non-believing states have their voting rights taken away?
No, stop being silly.
