I was having a discussion with a friend the other day about East Coast Bias in this country. He spent time growing up on the West Coast and talked about how people out there hate how the Eastern Seaboard tends to dominate all societal, political, and sports discussions in the country. It's something I never thought about having been born in New Jersey, growing up and going to college in North Carolina, and now living in the D.C. area. Do you believe there is still an East Coast Bias in American society and media?

Most Americans couldn't care less about the East or West coast's inflated opinion of their self worth.
So how come all the craziest trends, including some very strange politics (Swartzenager? SP?Really?) in this country start in California?
A lot of people think California got displaced ......actually it's the coastal part of CA that is the problem, IMO. If one goes into middle of CA and it's the heartland of Middle class America who dislikes government intrusion on their state.

That sounds like someone has an inferiority complex.
I think both coasts have great things to offer, just as some places in the midwest do as well. Or the south, or the southwest. Every area of the U.S. thinks they are better than certain other places, that's just how it goes.
