News, Arkansas House passes religion bill that critics say targets gays.
The Arkansas House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a religious freedom bill similar to one recently approved in Indiana, over protests from critics who say it could open the door to discrimination against gays and lesbians.
The measure, which had strong support from the Republican members who dominate the statehouse, now goes to Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson, who has said he would sign it.
It's really indicative of the quality of leadership present when you have to sit and watch Pence painfully backtrack, waffle, obfuscate and downright weazle mouth his way around this stupid piece of legislation he signed.
He's acting like a deer caught in the headlights seemingly surprised by the breadth and depth of outrage over this idiotic law after he rushed to sign it in private. Nobody believes he didn't know he was signing a controversial piece of crap.
Comical in the extreme. There's only one wheel left on this clown car.
Now we have Walmart telling Arkansas to back off on similar language. Whooeeee. That's a far broader spectrum of citizen representation than Nascar.
So what if a Mom and Dad want to buy a birthday cake for their 13 year old gay son?
What if an Asian family wants to buy a cake for the Buddhist holiday of Vesak?
What if a sorority sister wants a box of cupcake for her lesbian Sorority slumber party? (Bet some straight guys wish they were invited!)
All these people should be shown the door?
Dude ... CHILL ... it's only a friggin' cake! No one is asking you to attend the ceremony or officiate at it.
SHEESH!
Dude you want to force me to bake you a cake? If I baked you a cake it would have a special filling.
But this isn't about cakes. It's about forcing America to accept a deviant lifesyle. Push back is coming.
I honestly can't even imagine what it would be like to not be able to just walk into an establishment and purchase, order, or request whatever they provide without hesitation. And I can't imagine the embarrassment or shame that may come from being denied service at a business. I am young enough that I have never had to face any kind of discrimination, and my heart breaks for people who have or will.
I can't believe that in this day and age that anyone would be okay with allowing or even supporting the ability to do that. Why anyone would want to be a part of that confounds me. And if they do, they should have to proudly display a sign on the front of their businesses saying so.
Yes I can't believe that anyone supports property rights, religious freedom, the 1st Amendment, and liberty in general. What old fashioned notions considering it is 2015 and all.
Last week, Governor Mike Pence of Indiana signed into law the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Almost immediately, an uproar ensued, claiming that the law was discriminatory — that it provided a license for businesses to discriminate against gay and lesbian customers. Entirely lost in this kerfuffle has been the simple fact that the Indiana law is modeled on the 1993 federal law of the same name, and that counterparts have been adopted in 19 other states. Further, four federal courts of appeals and the Obama Justice Department have all taken the position that RFRA can be used as a defense in private suits involving the enforcement of laws that substantially burden free exercise of religion. Important debates over the intersection of faith and equality are impaired when they are overtaken by misguided rhetoric, rather than being informed by the history and context of how our legal system has treated this issue.
Operating a business is now equivalent to practicing religion?
