A federal appeals court in Mississippi unanimously ruled to dismiss a lawsuit against President Obama's 2012 program to protect young people brought to the U.S. illegally from deportation. The three judge panel consisted of two Republicans and one Democrat. Legal experts believe this ruling sets a precedent that could undermine the lawsuit brought by the GOP in 25 states on similar grounds, and which a federal judge in Texas ordered a halt to pending appeal.

The appeal for that case will be heard by the same appeals court, the 5th Circuit, that decided the Mississippi case this week.

The two programs — the 2012 Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the 2014 Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) — rest on the same legal foundation of prosecutorial discretion by the executive branch to prioritize deportation resources and temporarily let some undocumented immigrants stay and work in the country.

"I think DACA and DAPA will really turn on the same decision. I can't see any meaningful distinction other than DAPA involves more people then DACA," said Stephen Legomsky, a professor of immigration law at Washington University.

Yeah I read that. Hopefully not, we need things like these addressed, not dodged by the courts.

He was elected to uphold the law, not change it. And in response to a heckler, Obama actually said he changed it: "I just took an action to change the law."

He's a traitor and needs to be impeached by the House and prosecuted by the Senate.

A slight correction: The 5th Circuit is in New Orleans, not Mississippi.

Yeah good luck with that, given that we haven't done that to past traitors on the right....

I do kind of agree though....we should have stopped this sort of actions earlier with prior presidents.

What past presidents granted stays of deportation for illegal aliens by EO?
