Children are creating their own black markets to trade and sell salt due to First Lady Michelle Obama’s school lunch rules.
During a hearing before the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, chaired by Rep. Todd Rokita (R., Ind.), a school administrator told Congress of the “unintended consequences” of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
“Perhaps the most colorful example in my district is that students have been caught bringing–and even selling–salt, pepper, and sugar in school to add taste to perceived bland and tasteless cafeteria food,” said John S. Payne, the president of Blackford County School Board of Trustees in Hartford City, Indiana.
Turning kids into bootleggers.

Nancy Reagan had her "War on Drugs".

Michelle has her "War on Food".

Equally pointless symbolism.

It's good to see that children are still resourceful, I was starting to worry.

"caught bringing–and even selling–salt, pepper, and sugar in school", how sad that kids need to do it and that the administration even thinks about 'catching' them at it as if it were a crime.

There have been rule-breakers since the first day of school and the article doesn't illustrate anything that hasn't happened before.

I was trading apples for cookies when I was a kid in the late 70's, and my brother and I ate in the cafeteria maybe two or three times a week because my Mom would send us to school with homemade lunches or my Dad would take us home for lunch.

That's why so many of them end up fat and with other health problems. Too much salt and sugar.
