In my opinion, pills are too often pushed on patients by doctors instead of giving patients information on alternatives like changing their lifestyle instead of taking a pill. All meds have side effects, all of them.
Does anyone have a doctor spend more than 5 minutes with you? Do they listen to you? Or do they say hello, listen to your lungs and prescribe the latest medication, what the drug rep is pushing, for what ails ya?
I have no comment on this poor young woman's suicide. I do, however, have antipathy for doctors. I don't think they don't give a damn about people.
Dr Oz compared the use of medical marajuana to the opiate derivative drugs such as Vicodin and Oxycotin, and the marajuana won out as the safer drug. Thing is, the pharmaceutical companies don't make money on weed, so the patient rarely is given an option.
This is a really disturbing case. I don't think you can politicize this, and the connection to the pharma rep is not even worth mentioning.
IMO, she was someone who needed help. For one reason or another, she chose not to seek the proper resources for help, or there was none available. Drugs addicts are basically treated like children who have misbehaved. Well, stuff like this happens, though this is a very bizarre and extreme case.
Wonder if the magazine author ever thought some people can get addicted to anything. It's important people are aware of changes drugs make or at least a family member being aware.
As one poster mention MJ can help with pain, but not all pain and certainly not some bone pain when injured in a car accident. I took this stuff after my car accident, must have gotten lucky to not go suicide, it wasn't even that good......compared to the IV of drugs they give you.
"My niece was 20 years old, attending Indiana University as a pre-med student, an extremely intelligent, beautiful woman, just a beautiful spirit inside and out. She was in a car accident and was prescribed vicodin hydrocodone for the pain, and became addicted."
I was a pharma rep for years and still sell in the medical field. It's all about the $$$$$
Ditto for the natural news crowd. Go to their website, buy their peach pits, extracts, water purifiers blah blah.....
