Nothing wrong with that. IBM is a global corp, and we are only 5% of the world's population, so to have 20% of a global workforce is terrific.
I was offered work in the United Arab Emirates once where I'd have been doing work an Emirati could but apparently wouldn't do...globalism works both ways.
Fascinating times to live if you're ambitious and keep your skills aligned with market demand.
Give them 20 bucks an hour and they would still *****. Then the demand would be "i want a piece of the store"...etc...etc...it's all about not wanting to work period.....
shooting4life is right. take the hotel business for instance. the turn over rate is higher than the overall average(how many people want to be in a job where they have to take the abuse of a customer over something they didnt even do). that means that hotels are always looking for people, and with the advent of the large hotel chains, there is always opportunity to advance through the ranks if one is willing to take advantage of the opportunities afforded them.
does that mean that the average worker can make CEO? not really, but general manager, district manager, regional manager, there are all possible positions.
Maybe if hotels payed more people would be more inclined to stay but if you do not pay well do not expect people to stay free market as you would say. Sure an average worker can move up but there are only a few higher postions in each job not everyone who works at front desk or as maid can move up.
Most economic fallacies derive from the tendency to assume that there is a fixed pie, that one party can gain only at the expense of another.

Of course you do not have to take something from someone else like owning your own business but not everyone can do that so if you work for someone you have to take something from someone else that is just how it works.
The employees of McDonalds in my area joined the protest a while ago. They blocked traffic and demanded $15 per hour, and the the protest was taking place directly in front of a Wendy's and diagonally from and Arby's that both just closed because of decreased business in that area. How long did they think they would keep those jobs if it went to $15?
Seriously min. wage should be $15, it's really difficult to live on anything less.
Minimum wage is whatever the Market says it is. It that's $4.50/hour, then deal with it.
Anyone with at least 5 brain-cells can make it on $15/hour.
Realistically...
