Nah, the dude busts his butt and he almost never goes home and his restaurant is popular.

He has raised prices to cover things like the ACA but one can only raise them so high before people stop coming.

He's from China too; he was genuinely surprised there was so much government involvement in private businesses here when he first started. He told me he really believed you could just start a business and go.

I used to make minimum wage working a full time gig at a convenience store. If wages were put up to $15 an hour chances are my position would have been replaced with several part timers working 12 hours a week each. Either that or staff cut back considerably. Low profit margin small businesses with high overhead have the most to lose with a wage increase. Wages can be well over 50% of operating margin.

And what did minimum wage workers do years ago before all this hubbub? They either improved their skills, worked a second job, or moved up the ranks at the job they had. Now everyone wants a hand out. Fast food has never paid high wages.

Most independent restaurant owners work like dogs.

Did he ever explain the process and taxes of doing business in China to you? Makes the US look like a cake walk.

Most US restaurant employees are part timers. This was true before ACA and remains true after.

If he has fewer than 50 full time employees, his business is exempt from ACA.
If he chooses to provide insurance to fewer than 50 full time employees he is eligible for up to a 50% tax credit of the portion of premium he pays.

Most independently- owned restaurants employ undocumented workers behind the scenes and pay cash.

China now intends to tax China's citizens on their world- wide income, no different then the US.

The devil is in the details.

He owns a few area restaurants, so he got whacked by the ACA.

I've never asked if he is a Chinese citizen or not. I know he was born there but came here as a child.

He has white people working for him (my area is 90% white), so undocumented workers seem unlikely.

can or can' t doesn't f'n matter people. That isn't the point.

It is not like this franchise owner is deciding how much not to pay someone (or pay). you get paid because of your ability and the owner's need.

If your owner "can't may more" and he can't hire anyone because people want more money, he goes out of business.

if your owner is making TONS of cash. . and profit. . .he is an idiot if he pays 1 cent more than what someone is worth.

Did you ever notice EVERY ONE of your posts list reasons why you CANNOT accomplish something verses ways TO accomplish something? Call me thick headed but that might be your problem. Try switching your thinking you might surprise yourself.

If a owner can not pay enough for an employee to live on then he does not need to hire them until he can to many excuses are being made for businesses to pay slave wages. There are plenty of reasons to pay someone more then they worth it will make them want to work harder and produce more it will make them want to stay at that job so you do not have to take the time and money to hire someone else, it puts money in their pocket which they will spend at your business or another business.

He was talking about people in general not himself/herself. Why don't you try staying on subject instead of turning it into accustations?

its obvious that you have never owned a business. entry level jobs get entry level wages. people who stay in entry level jobs generally dont want to make the effort to move ahead on life, yet some complain about their lot in life even though it is a construct of their own design.
