And yes...Fast food has traditionally been a jump off point for the workforce, but that ain't the case anymore. Times have changed. Young kids means high employee turnover, and turnover is expensive. I've noticed that the workforce in fast food is much older than it once was as the service industry has supplanted jobs that we no longer have.

Still, the bottom line is that you can ask for more, and your employer can reject it. Why should I care if they want more? I don't HAVE to buy a hamburger if I don't want to.
I agree for the most part in what you are saying. I think what ticks off a lot of people is a perception, cultivated while watching newscasts, that some of the protesting workers seem to feel they are "entitled" to a higher wage. But you are right in that it is between them and their employer.

Nobody can insure anothers financial security.
What if the highest education one can obtain is a high school diploma? not everyone can go out and get a 4 year degree or even a 2 year degree, not everyone can be a manager, we need these low skill jobs for people with low skill (not just teenagers) and in my opinion they don't deserve to live in poverty, considering this is the United States (very rich developed nation).

These people are in the minority anyway so its really not too much to ask for.

B.S...they're American citizens. They aren't crossing any lines by asking THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT to get involved.

They may be philosophically wrong for doing it, but that's another thing altogether.

We've got FOREIGN governments asking our government to do their dirty work all the time at OUR expense...and we often acquiesce and do it.

No bytching from your crowd over that.

But American citizens can't petition their own government less they be "crossing the line?"

GTHOH!

Seriously?

The company I work for is hiring. $22 hr starting pay.

Where are all those hollering gimme?
Weak Limbaugh-esque argument. The majority of minimum wage jobs are worked by adults, the average is 28. This has always been the case.

If you cannot afford college, almost anyone can afford to put themselves through a trade school. Electricians, plumbers, etc. are always in demand and make a good living. I am not saying it is easy, it is much harder than when I was young. But on the flip side, there were kids when I went to school with who worked two jobs to pay for their education and ate ramen to get by. People with low skills, other than the young, usually do not do well financially. It is a harsh reality of life.

Well yeah...They feel "entitled" to it. Why is that bad if they think they deserve it? I can't make that value judgement on their behalf since I don't work for them.

My own contract comes up in October this year. Believe me..I'm asking for more. I may or may not get it, but only me and my employer can ascertain whether or not I "deserve" it.

Nothing more american than asking the government to steal from one person to give to another.

Furthermore, is painting everyone within any ethnicity with the same broad stroke a good idea(I'm speaking about the post you responded to)?
