Go tell them, not me...I don't know too many poor people who buy "very expensive prepared food" and if they do, then they don't get much to eat for the rest of the month - right? As far as your sage advice about hotplates and toaster ovens, do me a favor call some weekly hotels and ask if it's ok for you to use those in your room.

It's not just cruise ships..I don't think anyone receiving aid is upset because they can't use benefits on a cruise ship or a tattoo parlor, or a casino but why the prohibition against using the benefits to go swimming or to the movies? I see no problem with a welfare parent wanting to take their kid swimming on their birthday. And why only withdraw $25 a day- what if you need your car fixed and the mechanic is cash only (cheaper mechanics frequently are) That stuff is mean and makes no sense. It's just intended to demonize the poor and judging by 90% of the comments on this thread it's been very successful, but what can I say- haters gonna hate huh?

TANF is not supposed to be their only means of cash.
And TANF cash is supposed to be for the child, not to get your car fixed.

oh wow..where did you get that one? If you have a car and use that car to transport your children then most sane people would agree that it is acceptable to us TANF cash to get your car fixed.

No, it's acceptable to YOU.

And there is nothing preventing that. Go and get the car fixed and charge it to your TANF part of your EBT card. Nothing stopping them at all whatsoever.

And that has nothing to do with withdrawing cash at casinos, strip clubs and on cruise ships which is what this law does.

Apparently you missed the part where cheaper mechanics are often cash only.

And you missed the part where most arent too worried about the cruise ship and other stuff, but rather the daily limit, seimming, etc.

In fact.....your reply was completely missing the point.

There's always the excuses..one after another after another.

Like it or not TANF withdrawals are now restricted (somewhat).

And now SSDI is getting modified as well.

I'm glad our government is finally realizing that scamming is real and costs money.

You see..you are willing to turn a blind eye because "it's only 1%".
I'm not. Waste is waste and someone using government money when they don't qualify only puts another person who does qualify out in the cold.
