Maybe Kansas saw a problem with cruise ships in their data.

But Kansas is only doing what the FedGov mandated to all states and Kansas is actually behind the ball because this was supposed to have been done by the end of 2014.

And yes, welfare is now a middle class service folks.

That's probably why no one thought to prevent it in the first place.
But now, it ain't EVER going to happen!

This sounds good. More states should be tracking their social support programs and tweaking them as necessary.

Default Total nonsense

Politicians who failed elementary school arithmetic should resign. Sure, those welfare recipients can go on a $9,000 cruise if they become homeless & give up eating!

Instead of referring to this as banning, let's call it what the legislation does: a [long overdue] prohibition on the misuse of public assistance.

I think the issue should be more on whether the welfare recipient actually qualifies for the welfare or not. Or if fraud has been committed. And act accordingly.
If he/she does qualify, then wish him/her a happy cruise. (But the government should concentrate on re-evaluating the system on qualification criteria.)
Furthermore, closely related to this issue is the matter of disability claims. I think much more "losses" are incurred due to disability frauds than to welfare recipients going on cruises.

Spoken like a true confused Mississippian Where did you get this idea? And how do people believe the myth that people on welfare are dripping with diamonds, driving Corvettes, and buying yachts every other week? It's just not true. More often than not, they're barely scraping because they are working at Walmart or Mickey Ds. This legislation is ridiculous. Cruise ships? If they were going to legislate spending, why not regulate an expensive item, like iPhones, that they purchase more frequently and make them buy a cheaper substitute?

I wouldn't be surprised. California passed a similar restriction a few years ago at casinos in Vegas.
