“Assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense,” DeLauro said. “There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield."
In related news, the same group of Democrat representatives urged the Capitol Hill police who afford them protection to exchange their "assault" weapons for soft pillows.
Yep, turn in your assault rifle bill was introduced (reintroduced) by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and co-sponsors include Reps. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.), Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and David Cicilline (D-R.I.).
How does this even make sense? You can by an AR /AK for less than $500....
That's brand new BTW...
More anti gun thinking..well maybe not thinking, but what can we expect?
And before you anti gunners start complaining, yes it was brought up in 2012...but if you read it's being brought up again....
Didn't we just have a thread where one of the lwnj's was saying the democrats aren't really after guns or gun control and it was just republicans trying to make them look bad for votes?
Reps might be having trouble winning the presidency (we'll see), but dems are going to have major Senate seat issues in rural states for decades to come over this topic.
First party that gives up on gays or guns is going to take the lead.
Its a jobs creation bill. I have no use for an "assault weapon" but if I can buy one for $500 and sell it back to the government for $2000, sure I'll buy one.
Seems to me that gun manufacturers are going to have to hire a lot of people to keep up with the demand.

I'm sure someone has thought of that. I doubt they will allow people to buy guns for the express purpose of selling them to the government at a profit.

We are talking about politicians. You can't assume they have thought of anything.

It's a voluntary program, so no, no one is trying to ban guns with this law, and it only covers certain models. My P38 isn't on the list, and I wouldn't sell it anyway.

Give them a $300 SKS (I remember when they were $15 and an AK was $50) and buy a Lewis Machine Tools piston AR-15.
