Classical liberals are closest to today's Libertarian platform. The Libertarian platform is a funny hybrid between the two parties on certain issues.
Nonsense. Please illustrate an example of how the democrat party is fiscally Conservative. The closest thing to a classic liberal today would be in the Republican party. Unfortunately the Libertarian Party is not even in the conversation today. The misfits, anarchists and malcontents have made sure of that.

Most were not. Protected classes are.

There is no argument. This is such B.S. it's laughable!

Most of these people have no idea what a Classical Liberal is, let alone what a conservative is. Most of them have never heard the term. "Liberal" to them has always been what it is today, "far left." They never bothered to examine the root word, liber, meaning "free", or from Latin liberalis. As used today, "liberal" has nothing to do with freedom. Quite the opposite.

The revolutionaries were called "radicals" which was a precursor word to the term "liberals," and the royalist, who believed in staying under the rule of the British crown, was considered as the conservative stance. Southern newspapers also referred to Lincoln as a "radical" and the Southern Democrats during the Civil War era are defined as being conservatives (and Southerners vehemently support this definition). Conservatives also opposed womens rights, labor rights, the civil rights movements, and now gay rights.

The most ironic thing, is that living conservatives almost ALWAYS agree with the freedom movements of the past (that their conservative forefathers opposed), but oppose current freedom movements. For example conservatives in the Civil War era had by then agreed with the American Revolution but opposed the abolition of slavery; Conservatives around the turn of the 20th century had by then agreed with the abolition of slavery but opposed the womens rights movement; Conservatives in the 1960s had by then agreed with the womens rights movement but opposed the Civil Rights movement; and now most Conservatives agree with the Civil Rights movement but oppose the gay rights movement. Therefore, in 50 years, we can safely assume that conservatives living at that time will agree with the early 21st century gay rights movement, but will ironically oppose whatever current freedom movement is taking place in their time.

Back then liberals were today's conservatives. JFK would be too right wing to be elected today.

The D-party has taken over the dem party and co-opted their reputation.

Must be nice to live in such a simplistic world, easy to remember facts and word association tricks if you forget.

One example - Al Gore filibustered against the Civil Rights Act. He was a liberal.

HA HA sure as long as you follow their belief system, they want the Federal Government to BAN everything else by Constitutional Amendment.
