I'm a little bit confused. Shouldn't it be a nations goal to produce at least as much as a nation consumes?
Do you think Germany is exporting to much?
Germany has sky high tariffs on all imports.
That is how they maintain low unemployment and a well regulated industry, with high union membership.
Try being illegally in Germany, trying to find a job in Germany, if you are not on a work VISA.(which are few and far between. You better be bringing a lot to the plate)
Germany is a protectionist nation and it thrives because of it.

High tariffs: in just countries outside of Schengen or even places like France and Poland which are in the Schengen Zone?

Only if they are exhausting their natural resources to the benefit of other nations. Otherwise, exporting more than you import, in dollar value, is how a nation increases its standard of living and keeps a high rate of employment.

It's kind of dangerous too. Suppose other countries decide to put a sanction on German, it will collapse soon.
In countries where the domestic market is huge, it is less an issue.

Germany will collapse? why?
By that token will other countries with trade surpluses like China, Saudi Arabia, Norway, The Netherlands and Ireland collapse as well?

If people responded with trade sanctions? I dont know if it would be collapse.....but it wouldn't be pretty.
We don't need to sell to other countries to survive if we can meet our own needs. Germany wouldn't collapse if some country tried trade sanctions.
As I stated, I don't think it would be collapse, but it also wouldn't be pretty. Mind you, I am not saying it would be good for the other side of the trade equation either.
And if you think Germany is self sufficient, you are in for a rude awakening.
