Having filed my 2014 taxes earlier today, I can attest to this.

National Taxpayers Union - It's Tax-plicated: Complexity Rising with Obamacare Burden

Quote:
NTUF’s latest study clearly shows that to be the case, as the cost of complexity has spiked upward since last year’s analysis by nearly $10 billion.
What does that mean for the future?
Looking deeper at NTUF’s research, there is one big reason to think this could be the beginning of a trend in the wrong direction: 3,322 pages of legal guidance for Obamacare (or the ACA) added to IRS.gov (1,077 pages of regulations, 1,377 pages of Treasury decisions, 669 notices, 100 revenue procedures, and 12 revenue rulings).
Complexity is invariably to the advantage of the wealthy, who have armies of lawyers and accountants at their disposal to game the system. The working poor and middle class take it in the shorts. Libs, tell me where I am wrong....

And my accountant loves it. Between the added complexities of the tax code and the IRS thugs denying taxpayers easy access to paper forms and instruction booklets he's had a booming tax season.

News at 11! Tax complexity has increased under every single president!

Also as a FYI....presidents don't write the tax code

So why are you even involving his name in it? Why aren't you talking to the senators involved?

Heres a list:
The United States Senate Committee on Finance: About - Jurisdiction

Good news, the head of the finance committee is a Republican! Surely with him leading the finance committee overseeing the irs he will have a solution....right?

First tax complexity did not increase under the first 27 presidents (with the possible exception of Lincoln) since there was no federal income tax until the 28th prez (Wilson). Secondly, I'm not so sure that the claim is true even for all succeeding presidents. Both Kennedy and Reagan enacted tax reform that cut rates, reducing the need for tax avoidance strategies and thus effectively making taxes simpler.

Secondly, the president certainly does have major input into the writing of the tax code. Pick up a copy of Bob Woodward's The Price of Politics which covers negotiations between Boehner and Obama on taxes. The current Congress has limited ability to change existing tax code because of Obama's veto pen. They could pass a flat tax tomorrow, but Obama would veto it.

This president has always claimed to stand for the little guy and against the super rich. So why has he increased complexity, when complexity invariably benefits the super rich?

The working poor can get their taxes done for free by the IRS-sponsored VITA program. Middle class can probably afford to pay for Turbo Tax.

I didn't think taxes were any harder this year--yes, they had to new form for ACA subsidies, but there's always new forms popping up and they didn't seem that hard.

I had a ton of forms to include this year--Sched. D and supplemental forms--did them all on paper myself. (Too cheap to pay for Turbo Tax.)

Not a liberal myself, but I can't agree that they're getting harder.

Tax code covers more then income tax. Before income tax there was a 40% import tariff for example.

do you think that didnt have new rules added all the time?

And if you believe that the only thing that stops them is the veto pen....let them prove it.

Not sure what you mean by that. I'm a registered VITA tax preparer and a ton of people got the subsidies in California last year.
