The government is supposed to interfere with open free market completion by the marketers already in the market. The last thing a nicely controlled market will tolerate is new competitors. Controlled markets are set up to maximize the profits of existing investors while reducing risk. The existing owners are the government.

While open markets are good economics they are very poor business. Most business owners are well aware of this.

Yes, indeed. How about government gets out of the way of most things economic and let's the market do what the market does. By all means.
So that's how a porn shop gets located right next to a day care center in a strip mall!

Yup, I really saw that...in a western state.

Government over reach grew by leaps and bounds under Bush. It's sad that so many will push the B.S. rhetoric of both parties.

“What is wrong with the system is there is a fixation on addressing multiple social issues on the backs of poor people,” he says.

From the article. And this is how the (D)'s do it. They claim to be for the poor but pile cost after cost on the poor and pretend they are helping them.

Neither party has any interest in anyone outside of the top few percent.

Growing up my neighborhood was full of families with 12+ kids. One had 17 kids. The tiny bedrooms were wall to wall bunk beds. You had to craw into your bunk. One bathroom for everyone. Dads were typically Fire fighters, police officers, bus drivers, etc.

As an adult, I was surprised to learn most of the neighborhood homes were about 1000 square feet. It's substantially more space than most of the global population lives in.

I don't think the GOP runs things in Portland, but I understand the lame reply in response to an earlier one.

But this is what this boils down to. (D) and (R) and people arguing over which party screws them over the worse as opposed to addressing the issue.

Very few care about the country any longer, only in keeping their chosen party in power.

we used to laugh (kidding) with a friend because his livingroom was like 10x10(remember you lose 3 feet just from a standard couch) and had a 54" tv..we would say yep a 54" big screen in a 45" living room

the smallest a bath can be is ''about'' 6x6 and that is tight ....a stove(range) in a kitchen takes up 3.3 alone then a refridge takes anouther 3x3

no intellegent person would subject themselves to the torture of such a tiny living area. unless they were FORCED (ie jail)

most families(of 4 or more) REQUIRE at least 2000sf

1. remember when realtors talk SF, the talk OUTSIDE dimensions...ie the house is 35x45x2floors right there is 3100sf

I have 4 kids

5 bedrooms 15x15...................1125
1 dining room 15x12..................180
1 livingroom 15x15....................225
1 familiy/play room 20x30...........600
1 kitchen 20x20.......................400
1 12x10 office.........................120
4 baths 8x8.............................256
2 floors having 10x30 hallways.....600

total 3506

not to mention closet space

my house has an additional walk up attic that has been converted to living space....and was built in the 1930's

affordable can be big...but most of this 'modern' 'affordable' means crap, that's way to small for proper occupancy by code and safety
You are spoiled. Every kid does not have to have their own room. Until more recently that was actually pretty uncommon.

4 baths? You are incredibly spoiled.

I had 4 kids also. 3 bedrooms. I've discussed many times me buying a house at 24 working two minimum wage jobs and the interest rates at 9.9%.

1440 Sq foot. 3 bedrooms 1 bath. (4 kids after a few years) (had twins).

47 Hickory St, Parkersburg, WV 26104 is Off Market | Zillow

Growing up the neighbors had 4 kids, three bedrooms and their grandmother living with them. (1 bathroom)

Micro apts have a place in areas to get people started. Many need to move from where they are at now because of poor prospects at a job. This would give someone an opportunity to be able to afford to move to find a better area to live in.

My first apt was pretty tiny. The entire living space was one room. It had a separate bathroom. It worked for all I needed.

And? The free market would definitely handle that so much more efficiently than government. Two ways:
  • Few parents would drop their kids off at a daycare located right next to a porn shop. That would chase the da care center away.
  • Few pervs would shop for porn near where their neighbors could frequently see them. That would chase the porn shop away.
One way or the other, the market will handle it. In fact, porn shops are fine example of the free market at work because they are notorious for driving all the surrounding business away, which make the owners of retail space reticent if not downright opposed to leasing them the commercial space. That's why you rarely find strip joints and porn shops anywhere but out of the way industrial areas along highways and all that. They are very rarely in mainstream consumer retail locations, and if they are, either they or the surrounding businesses will be gone before long.
