Better not talk to kids about things like sex, birth control, AIDS etc. at home either, better to let them learn from other equally naïve kids and figure things out for themselves, eh?
The same reason why so many kids for good "conservative" families end up having children in their teens out of wedlock, seen it happen time and time again. The sooner children are taught the truth the less likely they are to end up living n ignorance and making mistakes based upon that ignorance.
Kansas politics is what happens when you have a large number of fundamentalist Christians with a lack of education fueled by a 24/7 diet of Fox News and hate radio. They lack the skills to question authority or think for themselves and the GOP hucksters like Brownback take full advantage of them. The Republicans in Kansas know that fear sells and the same people that faithfully attend church each week for some good old fire and brimstone are ripe for the picking. Give them an easy target like drugs or gays to focus their anger and blame on and you can get away with anything you want.

Have you seen their pot laws? One has to ask if the woman is a known activist and medical user, why is she in Kansas? It takes changing the laws, which have never been presented in this state.....more to the story!

I don't know what people on this thread are thinking. An 11 year old SHOULD NOT KNOW ANYTHING about MJ as far as activism goes. His mother is a problem as with most activists. They don't care if they are indoctrinating their children into something THAT IS STILL ILLEGAL! Let the kid grow up and understand first before filling his malleable brain with propaganda. This isn't about critical thinking, because an 11 year old CAN NOT have critical thinking skills about such a subject without being indoctrinated first by his activist mother. It is the school's responsibility to investigate where this kid got his opinions from and make sure there aren't any OTHER illegal activities going on in that house under the activist mother.
But surely it's just fine for the activist to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol in front of her child, if she wants. After all, those two unhealthy habits are legal.

Wow, you weren't kidding about your state having harsh penalties! I was just looking at NORML's website! Up to 1 year in prison for possession of even a small amount! Where is the justification or morality in that? I think the Bible-thumping fundies in your state need to re-evaluate their stance, and the neocon idiots that they elect, and while they're at it maybe ask WWJD? Know what I mean?

That's what I've been saying too. And not only do they use the law to hurl draconian sentences, but they have no remorse in taking your paid for house away from you, even (literally) for just one plant growing in the back yard.
Another tidbit about Oklahoma: It was the VERY LAST state to repeal alcohol prohibition and allow the counties to decide if they want to go "wet" or stay dry. That was in 1959!!!
