Or are you saying that his parents were also born into money?

He was taking graduate classes at 12.....please tell us how many times the tutor came around, and what the tutor stated....(psst, it's in the link I provided, did you even read it? <<<<<<Rhetorical BTW, we know you did not from your answer....)
Can you please repost that link.

For the purposes of this thread, lets say "successful" equals well off financially and the success the person is talking about is being wealthy or rich.

Here's my take.

The difference between successful and unsuccessful is random luck and in no way means the successful person is better or smarter or more hard working.

For the millions of people who have gotten somewhat rich or really rich, there are tens of millions more who are smart, hungry and have a great work ethic, but you know what separates those people from the ones who 'made it'?

Luck.

Look at people like Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber. Do you know how many people who have been on the Voice or American Idol who can sing Miley or Justin's songs BETTER than they can? Plenty. Yet, those people are anonymous and unsuccessful. How come? Luck. It works this way in a lot of other areas of life.

The successful person got successful by being in the right place at the right time in history, knowing the right people or some kind of combination of the 2. If you are a "Success" and you believe that you are successful because you're smarter or work harder than everyone who isn't successful, you're just delusional, there are MILLIONS of brilliant people out there who would be willing to work their fingers to the bone in all areas of life and just never got the shot for one reason or another......"You" are not more successful than them because you're smarter or work harder.

Don't be fooled by randomness, you're not all that special.

I disagree. Not completely mind you, but its not normally complete blind luck, its 80% luck, and 20% effort/skill/ability. You can have all the skill or ability, and still not succeed.

I completely disagree. There is luck, but the percentages are the reserve to yours. It is mostly effort and strategy plus some luck.

The thing is you have to prepare for luck. Opportunities are irrelevant to you if you don't prepare for it. When many people say they are not lucky, they mean after they have chosen a certain kind of way of life, and they aren't lucky within the constraints of that context.

Lots of students never use the library. It is free to everyone. and they paid for it. Someone read a useful book or met a helpful person that got them a job. You can't say you are unlucky if you didn't go to the library. You didn't put in the strategy like that person. You disadvantage yourself everyday. It happens all the time. Then you have a thousand whining excuses.

What a worthless opinion.

Look, rich people opining how they are superior to other people is boring and wrong.

This is one of the aspects of conservative ideological thought I find the most disturbing.

The idea that human beings basically get what they deserve(lie) and that rich people get more because they are better than poor people based on some unspecified set of character traits(another lie).

This kind of thinking is childish and blinds the vast majority of conservatives from reality.

So what have we learned from this thread so far? If you are not a million or billionaire you aren't motivated enough, not smart enough, aren't good enough, and don't have the love and worship of money you should have. It doesn't matter who or what you do in life, you are judged and remembered by how much money you have or had.

The meaning of life is the quest for money.

Kneal down and pray to your god --> $. If I have more $ than you do then I am better than you and you are just a lazy bum expecting me to hold your hand.

The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is luck. That's right, luck. It is NOT hard work. I know a lot of hard working people, 99.9% are middle class. It's not talent. Talent helps but that talent has to be discovered. Do you think every girl that can sing like Beyonce gets discovered by the right people? Success does NOT come from listening to self proclaimed financial "guru's" or reading books like "The Four Work Week," "The Secret," or "Rich Dad Poor Dad," it does NOT come from attending fancy seminars that cost a fortune to attend. Thinking about success does NOT guarantee you will have it either. I can think I'm gonna be LeBron James all I want, at 5'4 and 35 years old its never gonna happen. The cold hard fact is that life is not fair. Fair doesn't exist, (especially with the way things are going with the current wealth and power structure here in the US),. In life, some get the sh*t, some get the stains

Who knew the drug addicted who can't hold a job are just unlucky.

You insult everyone who has busted their ass to improve themselves to make a better life for themselves and their family. Shame on you.
