People often discuss the success of various immigrant groups who come to the U.S. to start a new chapter/better life, but relatively few discuss the success of middle and upper income Americans of African descent who relocate to the African continent to start various businesses.

In the wake of growing dissention throughout the U.S., I wonder if more Americans of African descent (who possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to make it elsewhere) will opt to leave America for the prospects of greater opportunities?

Many African nations have an emerging economy, which means that the time is ripe for those with some access to capitol to invest.

Please view the below video:

I truly believe that we should all seek to empower ourselves. At one time, many Americans of African descent were hopeful about the U.S., but now, each new generation of Americans of African descent (irrespective of their economic standing) are growing more and more displeased with residing in the U.S. I'm just curious as to why, more are not attempting to relocate elsewhere, to partake in a different type of experience and existence.

I'm in the process of exploring such options. I'm curious about your thoughts on this topic.

Good luck with that, but I really don't see this happening on a significant scale. Marcus Garvey's "Back to Africa" movement in the 1920s was intellectually popular but little came of it. I really don't see many American blacks, especially middle and upper class African Americans, leaving the country for "business opportunities" in Africa. Now, they might invest in some business in Africa but they're unlikely to actually move there. Why should they? Like Americans of European descent whose families have been here for a century or more, they've lost the connection to "the mother country" and think of themselves as Americans. Italy or Poland, where my ancestors came from, would be interesting places to visit, but I wouldn't want to move there, and if I did, I would still be an American not an Italian or a Pole. The same with American blacks moving to Africa: they'd still be Americans.

Keep in mind that sub-Saharan Africa is not a single entity, and like in Europe and Asia, there are lots of indigenous ethnic groups, some of which don't like each other much, so Africa is divided by religious/ethnic divisions despite being predominantly black.

Thanks for responding Linda, but I imagine that you did not watch the posted video.

It's very long, but worthwhile. The video shows a subsection of middle/upper income Americans of African descent who did uproot to the African continent (the focus was primarily South Africa). The Americans of African descent who relocated to start new business ventures throughout South Africa, expressed having no interest in ever returning to live in the U.S., because they prefer life in South Africa.

It is really my hope that more people will watch the video, to get a better understanding of the opportunities which exist abroad, for middle and upper income Americans of African descent.

Why go overseas when there are opportunities to invest here?

In emerging markets such as South Africa, the opportunities are greater, especially for Americans of African descent. Check out the video.

I saw this video a while ago. South Africa has problems it needs to deal with. Foreign investments aren't trickling down to the impoverished population. You didn't hear about the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals?

Didn't work out in Liberia.

And a lot of South Africa's success is due to the apartheid government that ran it until 1994 and the structures and systems put in place. It's one of the few country's on the continent with a decent infrastructure though their cities have kind of became poor.

The truth is, African-Americans will always live better (and always have) than they would in any country (currently) in Africa.
