My Landscaper is from Honduras and does a fantastic job compared to any Mexican or Anglo crew to date. He has a nicer truck than I have so I believe all of his other customers are equally happy.
A friend and I were having a conversation about lawn maint crews and how it seems that regardless of where in the country you live, a vast majority of them are Hispanic.
He then asked me that, if you got three bids for a lawn crew, one all Hispanic, one all black and one all white, with everything else being equal (cost, references, etc) would you have a preference on who to hire?
My answer was 'probably the Hispanic crew. Just based on the perception of work ethic for this line of work.'
I would have no preference based on the All other things being equal condition. If price and work quality and references were all equal I would look at other intangibles such as attitude, charisma, mutual interests, etc to determine who I am most comfortable with. Maybe one has a young family and needs the money more or knows someone in my family so there is a personal connection, or shares a similar church background. Anything to make a differentiation.
If all three were exactly the same with the only difference being ethnicity, I would just pick the one with the easiest phone number to remember or the closest address.
I have solicited bids for landscaping on behave of my single family HOA. The association maintains minimum standards for liability and Workers Comp insurance which eliminates most bidders. Those thAt do bid are commercial landscapers, owned and operated by white/ non Hispanic people. All their employees are Hispanic. I asked why they don't hire any non Hispanics. The response was the same from all, unreliable and unable to keep up.
Most homeowners in this community hire out mowing of their personal property. Kids / young adults are profoundly unreliable. Hispanics are used.
Dude, I once hired a roofing crew and one of them would stop by wearing almost nothing and heels. She was really good with a hammer,..... I think That part is still fuzzy.
