Social programs are over half the budget

Do you feel safer with all that defense?
Most of our allies have small armies because ours is so large. They can maintain a very modest defense force because they know the US would swoop in if any of them needed help.

Well, when you take money from people it should go.... where?
If your not spending it on your own people, maybe the gov has no business taking it in the first place

Not really the government is building their own needs, not the need of the people. Allowing ISIS to invade shows we are wasting their time and our people's lives.

Coburn shows what $28 billion in government waste looks like - CNNPolitics.com

Weapons destruction -- $7 billion

Weapons destruction: Coburn said the Pentagon junking weapons and vehicles used in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

"The military has decided to simply destroy more than $7 billion worth of equipment rather than sell it or ship it back home," Coburn said.

For instance, Coburn said "thousands" of heavily armored vehicles -- MRAPs --used to protect troops from roadside bombs "will simply be shredded."

Fort Hood shooter paycheck -- $52,952

Coburn said Maj. Nadal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people in a mass shooting at Fort Hood Army base in Texas in 2009 collected more than $278,000 in military benefits since the massacre.

Study: Wives should calm down -- $325,525

Coburn points to a National Institutes of Health study that cost more than $300,000 to find that the "happiest" marriages "were the ones in which the wives were able to calm down quickly" during conflict, the researcher in the report found.

"Men who want a happy marriage are probably wise to avoid telling their wives the government's advice to resolving marital conflicts is for her to calm down," Coburn's report said.

NIH's defense: "Understanding how couples maintain emotional satisfaction, especially in the face of everyday conflicts and challenges, can shed light on the qualities that define successful social relationships and point to interventions to support marital health in the long term."

The study did in fact find that "women's ability to manage emotional conflict may be an important signal to both partners of the health of a marriage."

The NIH said the research grant was part of a multifaceted study by the National Institute on Aging that looked at "emotional function in aging."

Now young black people are calling in on radio shows, asking why white people hate them. They don't understand slavery and they don't understand all of the sudden hate. Amazing some of these people didn't feel rejection until President Obama and the First lady has told them they need to.

That sounds more like a perspective than fact and I say this as someone who believes the U.S. spends too much on Defense.

Some on this forum frequently post stuff to sustain the myth of the welfare queen, grocery carts overflowing with lobster and Mercedes.

Not too many post about how the military has never been able to account for spending or the waste in defense contractor spending or the lobby spending.

We begrudge a $1.50 SNAP meal and don't blink an eye at $ billions of Defense spending down the toilet.

Truth be told we cannot afford either spend at current tax rates.

I can spend my money better than the government can.

When you spend your own money on yourself you care about value and quality.
When you spend your own money on someone else you can only about value and not quality.
When you spend someone else's money on someone else you care neither for value or quality. This is how the government spends money.

Welfare buys more votes than defense spending.

Um, because to an extent it is. Our budget is nearly the same as the rest of the worlds COMBINED. Now, is that really necessary? I think not.

I doubt there is one bit of remote truth to this. They've been killing each other for thousands of years without our involvement, to think they would have just kept their hate to theirself is ridiculous given they hate our way of life and freedoms.
