What is your opinion on alcohol being taxed by the state? As a lover of alcohol (the non-abusive kind) I hate it and see it as merely being a lifestyle tax.

Do you support or not support the taxing on alcohol? Explain your stance.

I don't oppose alcohol having the normal sales tax applied, and maybe even a small (1%-2%) "vice surtax" on top of that.

Given the damaging effects, and police costs it incurs, its not unreasonable to tax it to cover these expenses.

Tax should be just regular sales tax. And to greywar, let those responsible for the increase of costs bear the price of their decisions. Not the entire group.

A person who drinks responsibly is just as different to someone who abuses alcohol as a law following black person compared to a black person who commits crimes.

There should be no taxes (other than sales) on alcohol.

Let's apply that logic to cars, motorcycles, football equipment, bicycles, swimming pools and dozens of other things too, right?

Really? So the drunken wino that gets police called on him will really pay for the bill? LOL

I mean in theory, I agree, but unfortunately reality doesn't work that way.
