No I didn't miss the point. My point is about mutual respect. You are concerned with not getting in trouble over a symbolic bar fight.

Default Obama alienates our eternal friends the Saudi's.

Friends?

The hijackers in the September 11 attacks were 19 men affiliated with al-Qaeda, and 15 of the 19 were citizens of Saudi Arabia

That's just dumb.

But they DID have a big US friend recently...

Carry on.

No, you still miss the point. I's not about the soldier--who might very well be in a hell of a lot of trouble--but how the two nations handle such problems with absolutely no ripple in their international relations.

Basically in the ME, Obama wants to get the Arab States in the region to clean up their own mess. People like Mcain and Graham still think that's our job.

Good. There would be nothing better than somehow persuade the Saudis to carry their own weight when it comes to policing ME. It seems to be happening with Yemen, so this is a good thing.

The king has health issues, so it's pointless to jump into conclusions about why he decided to not come (health, or making a political point). The crown prince is coming in his place.

Of the 13 times a sitting American president has met with kings of Saudi Arabia, six meetings have been in or near Saudi Arabia and seven meetings have been in the US--although two of those were events when the king was primarily in the US for heart surgery.

Notably, though, Obama has so far always had to go to the king, the king has never come to him.

Could it because the king was so sick that he actually died, and the new king is too sick to travel? The new king has been on the throne for two months. Other than that, who cares?

I don't particularly have a point with that...not enough data to say what the significance might be, including this case.

There is a lot of Saudi money going to ISIS, mostly because they're helping to advance the Sunni stronghold on the Middle East. They put terrorists in country clubs masquerading as prisons while raping or killing people for being homosexual, or stoning women to death for cheating on their husbands.

When you're dealing with an Islamic monarchy in a relatively new country a few generations removed from tribal warfare, the nation isn't necessarily taken as seriously as the religious affiliation.

The US relationship with Saudi Arabia is complicated and it definitely isn't as simple as the OP wants it to be. The US can't afford to be choosy when it comes to having allies in the Middle East, so they're willing to overlook all kinds of horrendous human rights violations and cruel, repressive laws in order to maintain that relationship.

It has nothing to do with friendship.
