Rand Paul Is Not A Libertarian | ThinkProgress

So.....essentially, on everything except the NSA (and his stance on that is still dubious) he is a big government far right conservative lol

I was actually considering voting for Paul, but after reading a few of those quotes, I'd vote for Hillary before him, and I can't stand Clinton.

I'll be looking at Jeb Bush, now.

According to your article,

"Libertarians, in general, are fiscally conservative but socially liberal, with a non-interventionist approach to foreign policy. His father, Ron Paul is a “libertarian cult figure” who had tremendous appeal to young Republicans. Rand Paul is clearly marketing himself as the heir apparent to those supporters — the one candidate with a chance of expanding the Republican base."

I DO believe Paul still has a chance. Him vs Hilary Clinton. Him vs. Jeb Bush seems easy choice for me.

Read more, Lily. Paul suggested gay marriage may lead to people wanting to marry animals. That alone did it for me. Sorry, the "slippery slope to bestiality" loses my vote every time.

The Defense of Marriage Act is struck down by the Supreme Court, and Paul goes on Glenn Beck's radio show to explain his own views on what happened.

"It is difficult because if we have no laws on this people take it to one extension further," Paul tells Beck. "Does it have to be humans?...

hmm, I have a hard time believe that in his heart, he really believes that.

He said

""So I don’t think we can completely flip. But can we become, to use the overused term, a bigger tent?" he added. "I think we can and can agree to disagree on a lot of these issues. I think the party will evolve. It’ll either continue to lose, or it’ll become a bigger place where there’s a mixture of opinions."

Rand Paul Says GOP Can't 'Completely Flip' On Same-Sex Marriage

I've always believed that Republican party, just like Christianity, will evolve. I support gay rights and gay marriage 100%, but we all have our priorities. I hope I don't sound like a bigot for saying that

Ron Paul has said the war on drugs has been a “failure” comparable to the prohibition of alcohol. He has also supported a general de-criminalization of narcotics on a federal level. Plus, Rand Paul is More Compromising and Pragmatic.

In this weird place we are in history, where so much contradicts so much else, I am looking at this marriage issue as nothing more than a smoke screen. What is it the powers that be want the public looking away from?

If that is ALL you have to worry about in life and politically, you really have no problems.

I lived with my husband 'in sin', if you want to get religously technical, for 8 years before we decided we wanted children and got married. We didnt need a piece of paper to validate our love. But, we did need a piece of paper to give our children (which never came to be) a valid geneology.

What you write here is why I've been looking to him, but now I'm done. All politicians pander to an extent, but "gay marriage leads to bestiality" is a deal breaker for me, whether he means it or not.

Rand Paul has always been consistent. He "is" whatever he thinks the audience he talks to wants him to be.

I can accept that. I might change my mind about him later, we'll see.
