*SIGH*

No one is calling Detroit or Camden shining examples of what America should be.

But let's not forget that these cities are full of our fellow citizens (while we're running all over the world looking out for everyone else)....many who get up off of their asses every day despite their setbacks and location at least try to make their situations a little better. Many people in these places actually try to make their communities just a little better despite the odds (which aren't in their favor) and limited resources.

I'm really tired of folks slamming the poor and other people that live on the edge of losing it all....if they have anything to begin with.

So I’ve come here to Camden to do something that might have been unthinkable just a few years ago -- and that’s to hold you up as a symbol of promise for the nation. (Applause.) Now, I don't want to overstate it. Obviously Camden has gone through tough times and there are still tough times for a lot of folks here in Camden. But just a few years ago, this city was written off as dangerous beyond redemption -- a city trapped in a downward spiral. Parents were afraid to let their children play outside. Drug dealers operated in broad daylight. There weren’t enough cops to patrol the streets.

Thanks, that makes more sense especially with the context. Though it does take the steam out of this thread.
