Why is that "beautiful news"?

How does this help tourist spots in America, or in friendly nations in the Caribbean?

How will this help folks in Puerto Rico, Aruba, the Bahamas, or in Florida? How about that mouse in Orlando, will he be heading to Cuba?

When I was in Cancun I met a lot of Americans who were going to Cuba. They have flights every day

True-Americans have always gone to Cuba through other countries-although technically I don't think it's supposed to be allowed.

I was referring to people that have flown to directly to Cuba from the US though.

The way I see it, people on that island have been through hell over the past century. And arguably several centuries. Hipsterish lamentations about chain restaurants should be the LEAST of their concerns.

Check your privilege, dude.
Calm down man, chain establishments are just eye sores, they're a black mark on the culture. And chains serve garbage food anyways.

Hipsterish lamentations? I hope you realize that many people in other nations aren't thrilled about the chains. But they are usually not the ones making the decisions.

White North Americans love them some cheap underage prostitutes. Yep, win-win for everyone involved.

Cuba new hotbed for sex with minors

Canadians are major customers in Cuba’s child sex market

I like Cuba's unique and noncommercial character as well.

However, it is not the result of any rejection of commercialism or embrace of enlightened aesthetics. It is the result of a heavy handed thugocracy that restricts if not bans free enterprise.

Communism does that. It freezes the landscape in time. Wonderful for those of us looking for something different. Maddening for the residents who must live in it.

Not true. I've known plenty of ordinary people who went.

I'll just stop right there.

What am I...a minister of Caribbean tourism?

Not my concern. Call Interpol and tell them.

I hope they never allow foreigners to own land.

I don't think that's going to be a problem except in the areas set aside for tourists. The government does not want Cubans to get any uppity ideas.

No worries -- the ordinary people will continue to live hand to mouth, and play the role of poor but happy natives in a colorful but backwards tropical paradise for many years to come. Just the way the gringos like it.
