Exactly what came to mind. It is good that this happened but why haven't the banking leaders been arrested? Paying a fine and saying "I'm Sorry" does not cut it. Why are the FIFA officials worst than the scum on Wall Street?
Because the US Government is quite content to let them do their thing and shift some of those profits their way via "fines".
You think the USG is going to kill a cash cow ?
IIRC, there are people in the US have been arrested.
And the arrests in Switzerland were in response to extradition requests from the US. The Swiss have now arrested them and they will face the extradition process in Switzerland.

No surprise. FIFA just like IOC is corrupt to the core. Bribes and payoffs especially at determining the host nations for the next World Cups and election of the FIFA President is standard procedure to buy the votes of the officials of the member associations.
Soccer is HUGE overseas. It surprises me that we're taking the lead on this, and not the EU.
Because handling this wrong could wreck a politician or political party over there not to mention risk of being accused of bias and of course intra-country politics.

Again, the title incorrectly declares US is arresting people around the world. The swiss made the arrests, not the US.

You mean to tell me that our Department of Justice is concerned about people in high positions of international power and influence taking payments of money from countries and international organizations that appear to have influenced the outcomes of decisions made by these people? Bribes, if you will?
That is fascinating, as Hillary Clinton and her foundation took many millions of dollars in payments from foreign countries and organizations which very much appear to have been intended to influence the outcome of decisions which ultimately did favor these countries and organizations greatly.
Is the Obama/Lynch Department of Justice going to pursue that too? No? How can that be?
What is sad is the government see's a way to prosecute some of these guys but they were unable to do the same with the bankers.
Maybe FIFA execs did not make large enough donations to our politicians?
