Didn't see a thread on this. Seems like a big deal. Figured I'd start one.

An article, one of many.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/28/sp...=top-news&_r=0

The US has unsealed indictments against a number of executives of FIFA, the governing body of world soccer (or football as it's known everywhere else but the US.) There are arrests happening all over the world. In a surprise to no one, this organization is as honest as a three dollar bill. Lots of bribes and kickback.

I'm of two minds about this. On one side, a lot of these organizations are thoroughly corrupt, and some one needs to take them out. I'd love to see them go after the International Olympic Organizing Committee next. Whatever the FIFA crooks were doing, the IOC has to be an order of magnitude worse.

On the flip side, why is this our (the US's) problem? We seem to have decided we're the world cop. Why should we spend the time and money cleaning up what is essentially an international entertainment organization, when there's so much more serious things our LE community could be dealing with. Let the Europeans deal with this. This is much more their sport, and much more of the management is over there.

Money came through the US, which is why the FBI got involved.

What is sad is the government see's a way to prosecute some of these guys but they were unable to do the same with the bankers.

The bankers get fined. And will continue to do what they do until they sit in jail and not just pay an easily recoverable (by raising their rates) fine.

FIFA Scandal - US making arrests of officials around the world
The arrests were made by the Swiss police.

Raids in the United States are typically led by armed SWAT team members wearing bulletproof vests and helmets, but the Swiss took a more subtle approach. Rather than storming into the executives’ rooms and hauling them out in their pajamas, the officers waited for the men to come to the door and then gave them a chance to get dressed and pack their bags.

Well at least this shows the world that we "care" about Soccer.

Two World Wars and now this; America saves the day for Europe once again, you're welcome world.

Soccer is HUGE overseas. It surprises me that we're taking the lead on this, and not the EU.

Is that like a BIBER or an ISIS?
