The PTB are trying to cull the population. That's why people in poor countries just die off and people in developed countries can no longer afford more than one or two children.
He's long been on my 'ignore.' I have a very long list generated from P&C primarily. Every now and then I'll open an ignored post - which only serves to reinforce my original decision. For me, the ignored posters are rarely worth reading.
Good for your dad. I'd do the same. I do agree there are abuses. My 89 y/o neighbor was put in a treadmill, for God's sake - and then doc installed a pacemaker. No biggee - he was in and out of surgery/hospital in two days. He lived another two years. Probably would have lived the same two years without the pacemaker.
The real problem is that doctors and family members what to keep them alive when they are just ready to go on their terms and with diginity. But that isn't an option for seniors.

It's always an option. One just has to know how to exercise that option.
Doctors do what everyone does. They work for money. If there is a method of payment for a procedure, they will take that method of payment and recommend that procedure. They aren't focusing on seniors, they are focusing on anyone that has a method of payment. Seniors just happen to have a guaranteed method of payment. I don't blame doctors really but if there were guidelines on what procedures were realistic and advised, you'd have the GOP screaming death panels. There's no winning.
The rest of the developed world maintains MD comprised Compariative - Effectiveness panels to determine care and treatment protocols. While such a panel was a part of the original ACA, it was struck due to the manufactured outrage - death panels.
I wonder if MDs in other countries routinely recommend colonoscopies for 90 year olds.
I wonder if MDs in other countries have quotas for referrals.
