I consider myself to be pretty liberal and I abhor the Patriot Act. It is probably the only issue Rand Paul and I will ever agree on. Wrong is wrong regardless of who is president. People should have a right to privacy. The government invading privacy to ensure freedom is ironic.

I don't recall but very few getting upset. It passed with wide support from both sides.

A few groups complained which are pretty much the same ones still complaining.

The way to accomplish something is not to come right out of the gate trying to separate people.

NSA collecting megadata is phone numbers, not conversations. As an retired military with family members currently serving, I believe that by not continuing the Patriot Act we will see increased incidents in the US and abroad on American citizens.

Everyday as we shop or search the internet, private companies gather information about you and your habits, good and bad. These private companies have a right to do that. IMO this is a bigger problem than gathering phone numbers. In addition telemarketers buy and sell your phone numbers all the time. IMO those are invasion of privacy on a larger scale.

AFA Rand Paul, I think he is as wacky as his father. To stand and babble for 10 hours is stupidity.

So tell us....who is urging the reinstatement? Why do you believe its the Left? After all I can point to lots of folks on the left who think its bad.

Yes a couple on the right are against it. Why do you suddenly assume that is something unique to the right suddenly?

Let me quote some on the right:

Quote:
McCain said Paul was placing "a higher priority on his fundraising and his ambitions than on the security of the nation."

I don't recall much of an outrage either. Americans were more willing to give up freedoms and accept some intrusions after 9/11.

That may be true but how far do you think it is OK to go in order to keep us safer.

I was against it then and I'm against it now. Thank you Mr. Paul. The liberals 10 years ago still voted for it whether they pretended to be against it or not

Which is somewhat understandable. It was all pretty new and people weren't sure what the answer was.

It all wouldn't be nearly as bad if the government wasn't so willing to lie to us even under oath.

Liberals realized with information comes power and they love power.
