According to Islam it is death penalty for blasphemy and apostasy; people drawing Muhammad and criticizing Islam angers Muslims in the U.S. and worldwide and carries out threats, radicalization, uproars, fight, murdering, bombings, etc. as we have seen previously and even now.
For example Prophet Muhammad called for the murder of Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf, because he insulted him.
Should the U.S. government stop that for safety?

Why single out Islam? Criticizing Christianity is blasphemy and punishable by death penalty too. It's just there aren't too many true and devoted Christians nowadays - most Christians are in the name only and they don't give a crap.
Let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness…(Ch.5:V.8)
But Islam does not only condemn the blaspheming of God. It also protects the feelings of polytheists, by forbidding Muslims from attacking their idols. On this point, the Holy Qur’an states:
And revile not those whom they call upon beside Allah, lest they, out of spite, revile Allah in their ignorance.… (Ch.6:V.108 Khan)
And abuse not those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest, exceeding the limits, they abuse Allah through ignorance. Thus to every people have We made their deeds fair-seeming; then to their Lord is their return so He will inform them of what they did. (Ch.6:V.108 Maulana)
In other words, Islam teaches Muslims to be sensitive to the sensibilities of others—no matter how strongly they disagree with them. The implication of this verse is that if it is not permitted for Muslims to slander false idols, it certainly cannot be permissible for Muslims to defile other sects within Islam or other religions.
No, of course it shouldn't be illegal to criticize any religion or religious figures. It's definitely a first amendment right in this country, and I haven't seen anyone arguing against it. Pam Geller, John Ritzheimer and the Westboro Baptist Church have all exercised their free speech in religious matters without anyone attempting to stop them.
The real question on this board seems to be, should organizations and individuals be shielded/protected from reaction when they do exercise this right?

Absolutely not true. There's is no penalty for blasphemy or apostasy in Christianity. Show me quote of Jesus Christ/NT saying that we should kill those who criticize him
