"IT MUST BE MANDATORY FOR YOU TO ALL COME OVER HERE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL!!!"
I spent 3 years there in the military and it was pretty amazing After living there for a while and making German friends in my neighborhood, one day I thought about it and realized I had been lied to. The U.S. wasn't the only "free" country in the world. Of course there are things here and there I didn't like about Germany. For instance, a big one, college is free, but then you can't go back and get a different degree and change career paths. If you didn't choose right the first time, you're stuck in your career for life (and I've heard France is the same way). And then seriously, learn to build a functional kitchen and bathroom! Although I'll concede overall construction of German homes was far superior to American wooden homes. An a 7-11 here and there would have made life more convenient But outside of a few little nit-picks, life there was good. Very safe, clean, beautiful.

No country is perfect though. I'd put the U.S. in the top 10 or 15 for my personal preferences.

What I find funny is that somebody starts a thread accusing people of being "sheep" because they mostly didn't agree with him on the subjects of numerous threads he started.

Mandatory European visits? WTF for? Have you seen the chaos the EU is in? What on earth does Europe have over the US? If Europe is so great, why do they rely on our dollars to prop them up? If the US closed all their bases, pulled all the military, stopped protecting them, and stopped sending billions in palimoney... those countries would descend in an inferno (they just may anyway).

The US and the metric system huh? I don't care where in the world you are, but lumber will always be referred to in the Imperial Inch, such as a 2x4. See, here in the US we sport the capability to use both metric and american standard. I have complete sets of tools for each. I'm just as content working on my Ford truck in ASM and my Suzuki RMs in Metrics. If anything, we are more prepared than those on a purely metric system.

Besides, metrics is designed for those who use their fingers to count!
I agree, most people are nationalist to whatever country they were raised in. Also the US does use some metric system like with mass, we do use grams sometimes (especially in science.) I mean in Boy Scouts do they use pounds for pinewood derby cars? I always remember it was a 5 gram limit. That and food labels you see grams rather than ounces when it comes to nutritional facts.

OP

What you really mean to say is that other people disagree with your worldview and it upsets you. This is why you declare them "sad" and "silly." Yes, you will find that in life, others do not share your values. What value system will trumph in the end is only for time and god to say, but I will say that judging by your rambling, poorly punctuated post, you have a few things to learn yet yourself.

You have declared European socialism to be a wonderful thing. Do you ever read articles about economic news? Do you understand that Europe is the last stages of an economic crisis that will fundamentally alter it forever? Do you understand that they have altered the industrial base that made their way of life possible in the first place? Do you understand that it is manifestly not sustainable, which is why conservative parties are growing and they have had to experiment with austerity? Do you understand the demographic problems they face? Do you understand that under their economic system Europe, once the leader of the world, has become less and less relevant and is on the verge of breaking apart?

I am not even going to comment on your contention that the solution to the world's problems is to give every America a free European vacation. Well, actually I will. I think another underlying motive to your rambling post- in which you so cleverly and germanely attack America's lack of the metric system- is to announce that you have been to Europe and that you like it. Good for you. It does not mean you have any depth of knowledge regarding Europe or anything else.

What's going on?! I guess we should make it mandatory for high school and college students taking a semester abroad to Europe in order to learn and have their eyes open, perhaps then they will change their mind rather than listening to their right wing media, parents' or grand parents or others that influence them!
Having lived abroad for 17 years I can say without any equivocation whatsoever that your statement is complete crap, as usual.

You have this little going on in your life, that you're worried about this?

What's Going On?

It's pretty evident that YOUR definition of "Brainwashed" equates to "You don't agree with me".
Must be some sort of Language Barrier problem on the part of Leftists that so many don't go along with their ideas and edicts.

This may make you feel a bit better - I think the German System of Education might be something we really need. It's mandatory to go to school, they determine your future "track" between 4th & 6th Grade. IF you are determined to be "college material" at that time, then you finish your levels and then go through Testing and Evaluation to see what Degree Plan you will be allowed to follow. All those that don't make the "college track" - go into the Training programs for other jobs. In view of the college loan problems and kids that graduate from Universities/Colleges with un-usable degrees -- this would certainly help to direct them into needed Degree Programs and are useful and that they are Qualified for.

NAILED IT! MX has a case of misguided logic. Basically, it seems like the brainwashed calling critical thinkers the brainwashed ones.

Pure socialism is absolutely evil, and this has been proven time and time again through recent history. The best way to turn a socialist around, is to make them live in a socialist society where the ones at the top simply treat those at the bottom (the 90%) like serfs.

What has always made the US unique is our "get out of my way" attitude. To some degree, there hasn't been a dominating country like ours in history. Unfortunately, when Nixon placed us on a truly fiat currency, he opened the flood gates for monetary Ponzi schemes and political cronyism the likes of which had never been seen before.

Between Johnson, Nixon and Carter... we've been set up to fail in a slow death by a thousand cuts way.

What MX doesn't understand is that the EU is well ahead of us on the failure trail, partly due to their socialist ways.

Socialism IS evil, although it's covered by the facade of a caring, cooperative society. The more state control, the more force (violence) and the less cooperation. It's sold as everyone working together, but it's just some people forcing others to conform to their opinions on how everyone should live. A truly caring and cooperative society would be one where people respect each other enough to actually come to mutual agreements and organize peacefully. Pointing a gun at others because you think your idea should be mandated is evil.

Also, the U.S. is nowhere near as different from the rest of the world as we seem to think. Everyone repeats the "land of the free" stuff because the country was founded on individual liberties, but if you actually look at things empirically, we're not even close to that anymore. The smallest, least intrusive government has become the largest one, and one that continually tries to get more involved.
