Compared to the number of people on employer-based plans, the obamacare subsidized are a drop in the bucket. And they're a very expensive drop per person.

So, who will this effect: Mostly the states who don't have the healthcare exchange.

If Supreme Court rules against Obamacare, few states are ready for the fallout - LA Times

I doubt it the subsidies get overturned. The Court is, to some degree, political, and they know that if thye strike it down a LOT of people are going to be pissed and screwed out of health insurance. But even if they do reject the subsidies, all the states have to do is create exchanges. It just puts the ball in their court. I expect most of them will come up with some sort of alternative to exchanges fairly quickly. Either way, the system is broken and the US is in need of a major health care overhaul. Too bad Obama wasted all his capital on the ACA instead of a better reform bill.

They'll have to do something. They're not going to abandon the law because one aspect is challenged. Unfortunately, while Congress and the President bicker, a lot of Americans could be put in a world of hurt. Unable to afford their insurance anymore, they'll have to drop it, which will lead to them getting fined come tax time, which they probably can't afford, either.

I think this exposes the very real problem the ACA created by giving insurance companies a blank check by giving them guaranteed customers. There should have been some price controls included in the law.

The employer mandate hasn't kicked in yet, and that's when Obamacare would really hurt millions of people as companies dumped them onto the exchanges-- exchanges where identities are stolen, bank accounts are double-charged, paperwork is lost, no one answers the phone if you have problems/questions, and people can't find doctors who will treat them.

Yeah, that's been happening to the relatively few people who have had to go on Obamacare so far.

Just check out "Covered California" in "Sacramento, California" on Yelp if you want more gory details.

The great majority of Americans have no idea how lucky they will be if the Supreme Court rules against Obama, and Obamacare collapses as a result.

And collapse it wil when premiums skyrocket to make up for the lack of subsidies and people decide to pay the fine instead of paying much more for insurance.

As for Obama's arrogant criticism of the Supreme Court -- Hey, Obama, wasn't it your Sock-Puppet Nancy Pelosi who said "We have to pass the bill before we can know what's in it"?

We need to bring down the cost of health care.

That means:

1) Allowing the purchase of insurance across state lines to increase competition

2) Tort reform to avoid expensive and unnecessary defensive medicine and huge malpractice insurance premiums

3) Allowing Americans to buy prescription drugs overseas.

4) Tailoring insurance to people's actual health care needs -- e.g., catastrophic policies for younger people.

Obamacare does none of that.

It is a sell-out to the insurance companies at the expense of American taxpayers and those who can't get subsidies.

Only about 2-3 million uninsured out of 30-40 million uninsured have signed up for Ocare.
About 6 million had coverage that got cancelled and signed up for a total of about 8-10 million.

The 6 million will go back to the private market. The ACA has been a true failure cause it raised rates by as high as 80% for the whole and has only insured an extra 2-4 million people who had no coverage.

SCOTUS is not killing the bill. They will determine if the bill is the way Democrats wrote and intended it to be.
Pulosi should have read the monster first. They passed what they intended to pass, blame them.

Obama should be ashamed on how he lied to get this bill passed. That will be his biggest legacy.

This is the second or 3rd thread over the last few months with the same intent....

I've asked the question before and it somehow never seems to get answered...so lets try again...

How is it the repubs fault and how will they take the back lash when they had ZERO - nota - nothing to do with the ACA?

Not a single repub voted for it...why is it their fault?

The "Pubs" have absolutely nothing to do with this. They did not draft or vote for the law. This is 100% Barack and the Democrats problem. It is not up to the GOP to save a law that a majority of the country does not want and cannot afford. If the "intent" of a law is all that is needed, then why bother creating a multi-thousand page document. Words mean things and those words about who is eligible for a subsidy was deliberately put in their to mask the cost and influence the vote.

Well, I don't see how people are going to afford it. They'll drop it. And yes, those who choose to keep it might feel the increase. The problem now is that those companies count of the money from the government subsidy. It will be quite a blow when it's gone and people start to drop off like flies.
