Best way to put it is its the difference between a architects....and a carpenter

Reality is that most software engineers can do quite a bit of software architect work.

Few focus on only one side of it. Those that do focus on the architect side tend to work on very large projects, or corporations.

I take it you failed to read my later comment mentioning that I have also worked in construction and a sawmill.

The hardest have ever worked was at a chicken processing plant. I assure you thats freakishly hard work.

So you're not really at the level yet where you can "architect" a software design? You build libraries and make API calls off someone else's design spec?

LOL. No I do architect within my feature. I just don't claim the architect title as thats not the primary job.
I have held that as a primary job while managing a small team before at a small company.

But I'm not here to discuss my job. In fact I make it a point to not discuss where I work (although you would recognize it) because I've seen some real crazies here. As such...Im not sure what your point is?

The architect is the guy who pass muster w/ George Constanza. The engineer is the guy who can program Pascal. Programmer is the kid who took over your bank account and robbed you of everything.

Yet you never miss the faintest tangential chance to attempt to promote it here--and with 10 dollar words.

Were Kernighan and Ritchie "software engineers"?
