It might simply be a matter of the Catholic Church converting itself from being a champion of Western Civilization to a giant special interest group for the third world. That's not new with this pope of course.

In a world of limited resources, none of this will end well. Probably everyone needs to choose up sides at this point.

I think the pope was aware of poverty, the point is that climate change will impact the poor to a greater degree. Take the coastal city of Surat in India for example, more flooding, increase in disease, companies moving out of the area and residents living on the edge making a few dollars a day. No good choices

This.

I am appalled at all of the self-identified Christians who have so little awareness of our mandated positions as caretakers of God's creation.
To dismiss the destruction of our natural resources and the inevitable negative impact that destruction has on those least able to defend against it is to completely dismiss Christ's statement regarding "the least of these."

I've long suspected that many who hide behind Christianity as an excuse for bigotry and hatred have no real understanding of the beliefs that they have co-opted.
Their reaction to this encyclical proves that beyond any doubt.

I care more about nature's precious ecology than I care about scumbag corporate profits.

That doesn't make me a "liberal". It makes be a conscious human being.
Apparently you didn't read the post I was responding to. Do that next time and maybe you won't be wrong like you are above.

I do not agree with his views on global warming, but being concerned about the poor is in every pope's job description.

Second, Capitalism and freedom have lifted more people out of poverty than any other system tried. Free capitalist countries do more for the poor and the environment than all the other countries combined.

I would suggect that if the Pope wants to get into US politics, he should check out the facts before commenting. We have transfered Trillions of dollars in a 60-plus year wealth redistribution scheme called the "War on Poverty." Considering the current situation I conclude it hasn't and never will work.

What will work is an ethic of faith, hard work, and education. People should understand that faith, hard work, and smart work are the way to a better life. An integral part of smart is to understand that education is a never ending process. If you want a better life you must never stop learning and improving yourself.

During my entire 36 years in the workforce there is not one year that I was not in school and doing my best to learn new things. After I learned what was expected of me, I made a habit of learning and doing what made my boss' job easier, and then I looked into what I could do to make things easier for her boss. I moved steadily up to the highest position possible.

I read a book that claimed you can save 10% no matter what you make and began saving. Then in my spare time I learned how to invest what I saved. You can only work so many hours per day, your money can work 24/7/365. I retired at 54. Think you can't succeed? I recently read and recommend "The Wealth Choice" "Success Secrets of Black Millionaires" by Dennis Kimbro.

I have no problem with giving someone a hand-up, but, all a hand-out does is create a dependent. I do my best to not contribute to pollution. I have a major problem with funnelling more money to the "Climate Change" fraud cartel. It has been debunked several times. Lets pursue good policies for Humans and Earth and stop paying the fraudsters that are in it for wealth and power over us.

I find it amazing that with the current plight of Christians all over the world, being murdered, displaced, our ancient places being destroyed and what concerns Pope Francis, "Climate Change". Give me a break. "Climate Change" is about transfering wealth. The "War on Christianity" is murdering your flock. It would seem to me that saving the Flock would be the priority. Pope Francis, I appeal to you as a major leader of the Christian world, Save the Flock.

I am not Catholic but I am Christian. We need a leader that is intent on saving Christians and Christianity. There are already enough false prophets in the "Climate Change" fraud. I ask You, Pope Francis, to lead Christianity. Tolerance should not mean extinction. Do Something to stop the murdering of Christians and the destruction of their holy places. Are you going to stand by while Christians are murdered? Forget your "Climate Change" tour and instead rally the Christian world to demand an end to their own death and destruction at the hands of radical muslims.
The problem with your view is that you assume the system you know and like is good and an example for others. Well, it isn't. The US for instance is a terrible place, using orders too much of everything. Without doing that and thus destroying our one and only planet, that whole house of cards would collapse. That is why it can't be an example, to the contrary, it serves as an example of what to avoid. The problem is that most humans are stupid chimps, they either don't realize that, or if they do, they don't know what else to do.

I don't know if the pope is a chemist or not (where did you get that from?), but chemistry is not climate science, and the climate "science" that is the basis for the "global warming" hoax is nothing more than computer models that have been invalidated. Garbage in = garbage out. It's been proven to be a fraud from the email scandal of a few years ago, and the phony "peer review" of their work.

Ever heard of "archeology?" It has proven much of the Bible to be historically accurate. So, the problem with what you call "real scientists," is that by discrediting the Bible record, all of their conclusions about origins, and even climate science start with a wrong premise. Their conclusions, therefore, cannot be trusted.

Roman Catholicism is NOT Christianity! It is Catholicism. Period. And Christianity is NOT "mired in the Dark Ages." It is a myth that in the 21st Century man is more "civilized" and has "progressed" in some way. We have not progressed at all, but are becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah, uncivilized, rife with debauchery and every kind of evil.
Anyone who believes this is not a Christian in any way, shape or form.

Pope Francis' Climate Change Encyclical Leaked Four Days Early
And like a good liberal, he thinks the answer is to just throw money at the poor. Yeah sure, that will fix it.

Apparently the answer to the poor people living under the tyranny of an oppressive dictator like North Korea, is to just fly airplanes full of cash and drop the money on them. As if the reason the people are poor and hungry is because wealthy folks in Western nations are not giving them enough of their money.

Here's the link to the video of the presentation of the Pope's Encyclical. It's in italian until Prof John Schellnhuber summarizes the science from the 1 hour mark and he speaks in English.
