Interestingly, the people that I have known from the Caucasus region did not consider American whites as Caucasian. They also didn't care to be referred to as white.

I'm sure they chose "Caucasian" because it sounds like a joke. A "white heritage night" would just be evil, right?
Blacks in America identify with being black because their history and ethnicities were wiped out through slavery and its aftermath. There is nothing connecting me to other white people in this country. I am proud of my Irish heritage but see no reason to collectively identify with other "white people".
That's because you're probably a descendent of recent immigrants.
...much like American blacks, the American white, the people of colonial descent, are an ethnic group who have no conceivable ties to any specific European heritage. They are just "white".

I, a negro, would go and sit down just as an observer, and find it interesting. We probably have a lot in common.
As long as its not a front group for a white-nationalist organization, I see no problem with them discussing their American white Heritage/culture. They exist.
