Better yet, stop fighting the false war of GOP vs Democrats. Beyond a few minor differences there is essentially no real difference between them these days.
This is what we have to deal with, people who are ingloriously ignorant, and they are so smug of their ignorance they make post like the one you responded t, so they can show the world the vastness of their blithering ignorance.

Why can a person do, accept ask these ignorant people to pick up a freaking book.

One thing we've learned for certain- the OP has definitely been on the wrong side of a history book.

Good question. Seems the OP is lacking in knowledge.

It takes a "special" intellect to see the benefits of compulsory charity, slavery to the collective state, and eradication of endowed rights.

Maybe not though. If you literally tore Lincoln from history and put him in today's world, he'd most likely be an independent, maybe a Libertarian, but even that's pushing it. The political landscape changes all the time. There are views that the Democrats had only 15 years ago that would not be considered conservative. The world changes all the time, granted, it changes faster now than it did before, but all the more reason that trying to place figures from the 19th and 18th century into modern political parties is something of a waste of time.
Of course, Lincoln would be shocked by many things if you ripped him from 1865 and brought him to 2015 - who wouldn't. Least of which would be gay marriage. His Republican party of his day would be the Democratic party of today. That is what I am saying and I think you understand. I do agree with you at least half the time. LOL

Maybe you and the OP could chip in together to buy a history book.

From 1836-1992 Mississippi had only 6 years of Republican Governors, 1870-1876.

The Democrats held the Governorship for 153 years between 1836-1992. No switch in the 1960s, far from it.

In Alabama, from 1831-1995, Republicans were the Governors for 9 years.
Democrats were the Governor of Alabama for 149 years. Again, no switch in the 1960s, the Dems were in charge through the entire Civil Right Era, fighting it tooth and nail.

In SC, Democrats were in control of the Governor's office for 99 straight years, from 1876-1975. Again, no switch in the in the 1960s. It was a Dem, Fritz Hollings, who hung the Confederate flag on the statehouse. He then became a Dem Senator and served as a Democrat in the US Senate until 2005. Ooops, yet again, no one switched in the 1960s.

And then we have Robert Bryd, a Dem who spent who spent 57 YEARS in Congress, (Congressman from 1953-1959, Senator from 1959-2010), who started his own chapter of the KKK and was unanimously elected as the Grand Wizard. Again, no switch in the 1960s. This KKK Grand Wizard served as a top Dem in the Senate until just 5 years ago. If he hadn't died, he would still be there.

I could do this all day, but that should be enough to fully embarrass anyone trying to sell this "the parties switched" narrative.

No, they're not, in either history or leadership. The recent phenomenon is just that- recent. Both parties are equally prone to jumping the tracks regularly. That's how the United States has survived, as each time a party goes off the rails, our nation always comes to re-define itself, and by doing so, refreshes our nation.

It just takes more time sometimes than less time, but in time, the Republican party will find its new direction. That's why it has survived as long as it has. The same thing is equally true with the Democratic party.

Remember that a volcano destroys to rebuild once more.

Conservatives are consistently and reliably on the wrong side of history. It's in their nature

Democrats got us into the needless Vietnam war and got over 55,000 Americans killed.
There were Riots in the streets and the US almost had an internal war over the issue.

What side of history does that fall?

Yes. It was not that long ago that the Republican party was a respectable organization. They let the extremes define them after Obama was elected and they took advantage of the apathy of moderate voters to further a right wing agenda that does not enjoy broad support.
