I'm all for the legalization of prostitution. In doing so, I also insist that laws around human trafficking also be hardened. Human trafficking is not only about prostitution... its about all sorts of forced labor. Media focuses on the human trafficking of prostitutes because it is a hot button topic in our country... Human traffickers are scum that should be removed... it doesn't matter what the victims are forced to do. Its that they are forced against their will.

I have had a number of friends who just happen to also be "working girls". Yes, they all made their choices in life. For the most part, they are content or ok with their choice. These are students pay for college. These are single mothers abandoned by their fathers/husbands. These are just regular normal every day women doing whatever it takes to make ends meet. Some of them move on and live happy normal lives. Its their lives, their bodies, their choice... adults consenting.

However, the crap that happens to them sickens me. Dangerous men know that these women work outside of the law and target them specifically.. robbery, beatings, rape, etc. They know that so few of these incidents are reported to the police simply because the prostitute herself is risking arrest as well. I worry about them often. I'm tired of seeing the end result of a beating. I'm tired of comforting a friend who just got robbed. I used to help them in whatever way I can. By doing so I am involved and also can be subject to arrest. As such many of my friends will refuse my involvement. I too and now hesitant risk it... as I've moved on in my life (good job, family etc).

Screw the politics. Screw the history. Screw the moral high horse. I want these girls protected and feel free to seek protection. I want them to feel safe going to the police and report an assault. I want these men held accountable for their actions just like any other assault case.

I understand that these things move slowly in our country. So the first step in my mind that may have a chance of satisfying both sides is that the purchase of sex can remain illegal as it is. However they should decriminalize (within limits) the sale of sex. I do not support street prostitution nor the open advertisement of it. Two private consenting adults choosing to have sex is a private affair and should remain so... money or no money exchanged.. doesn't matter. Its been done in other countries with success. By doing so, the sexual transaction itself still allows for arrest and prosecution. It is still deterred. On the other hand, the women are no longer subject to arrest and prosecution. This will allow them to feel comfortable seeking out the police if an assault or robbery has been committed....

Prostitution itself is still deterred (purchase illegal)...
Crimes against a prostitute is also deterred (police involvement against the abuser, protecting the victim of abuse)

The bold is a part of prostitution. You're talking about high-priced escort services.

Why... because you want it?

I know the other side of prostitution

Think the girls of bunny ranch are healthy
Want to marry one?
Old hookers are rode hard and put away wet... their retirement benefits from being on their backs isn't all its cranked up to be... the bunny ranch pimpster makes a bundle... you want air force Amy as your wife after 1000s of other men... go for it

Now let's talk about the weirdos that can't develop any normal relationship with a women so that they get love.... and sex.. you want it to be a business propsistion

More damaging behavior for our society.. sex workers will be the new McDonald's... and won't they be emotionally healthy... not...

Women... for well adjusted males.. are not valued for spreading their legs but rather valued as partners for which benefits when developed come naturally

Strippers are legal.. want a real relationship with one? I've known many ... not one was healthy mentally and most self destruct... hookers aren't any different

People in general are prone to self destruction. Walk into any church and see the number of morbidly obese. Walk into any state legislature and see the number of drunks.

It's too bad, but it is their life and their choice. Would you favor SWAT raids on churches to stem the tide of obesity?

I agree. Hopefully prostitution will be the next domino to fall. Then legalizing marijuana in all 50 states.

I've been in a relationship with one. It was a good relationship and we are still friends. I still have many friends who also "work". I've dated a few.

My point is every field of work has someone or some percentage of people who have mental issues. The sex trade does not corner the market of the mentally ill or mentally unstable. They are people with issues in all walks of life. Yet we don't take their choice of profession and make it illegal.

I think it is time. Why do we throw people in jail for that?

No ..I would prefer a society that self policed its own behavior ... that understood the golden rule... that understood self restraint on behavior .. that people would take responsibility for being decent good people caring of others in natural and healthy manners.

This doesn't happen through liberalizing unhealthy behaviors ..drugs ..sex.. same sex marriage .. ..monogamy.. marriage for children's sake...gets called into question instead of the former acts

Their choice?
Please spend a week on Santa Monica blvd and talk to the children on their knees in the back of cars about their choice...

Prostitution is not a victimless crime... and we aren't Amsterdam... which is destrying itself.

I also blame..mostly men... for thinking they can use another human being... degrade them in any manner they like for exchange of money... I wish we could neuter them
