The Arizona State Legislature appealed and they consist of both the GOP and Dems.
They consist of both members, but the Democrats in the Legislature were not fighting the ruling, the Republicans were and they were the ones who brought the lawsuit,

The appeal was brought by the Arizona State Legislature, members of which are Democrats. That means that they were party to the appeal.
Do you have a link, did CA democrats take it to the supreme court.
Do you disagree that his ruling is a win for all?
Link was posted in post #36. Again, anyone who believes that the impulse to gerrymander is confined to one party or the other is either naïve or dumb.
The ruling is a win for those who figure out how best to exploit it to their advantage. That's how it works.

The Democrats in the California Legislature were not fighting to get the Indepndent Commission dismantled. Both sides have and do Gerrymander and the Democrats certainly have in California in the past, and likely would have if the Indepdent Commission law was in place, however they weren't fighting to get it overturned. What the article does point out is because how close the California law is to the Arizona law that if the Arizona law were to be overturned it would likely have a ripple effect in California as well
I never said that. I agree, both sides do it. But this case was brought by the Arizona GOP because they wanted to thwart the voter-approved independent redistricting committee.
Would you write the same post with the same headline if the Democrats lost a gerrymandering case in a different state? Somehow I don't think so.
The Arizona Legislature brought the appeal and it consists of Democrats and Republicans, in both the State Senate and the State House.
Republicans voted to bring the appeal, Democrats voted against it, the LEgislature is a GOP majority so the appeal went forward. This was done by Republicans and ONLY Republicans.
Anytime the Arizona GOP can get slapped down, it's a great thing for this state. We easily have the worst GOP politicians in this country.
