The basis of the culture wars in the U.S. (country)

I have been quite shocked by the hate shown in many of the threads here. It got me thinking about the basic reasons for the culture wars, and it came down to one:

Those who have been in power for a very long time are threatened by the loss of control. They're basically trying to maintain the past in time of culture change, hence culture shock.

Meanwhile, those who have not been in power before in the country and getting much more forceful in standing up and wanting equality.

Just my opinion.
