Perception is reality. THAT right there is the reason all these things are happening.
The simple fact is Prog-Activist have learned how to engage the culture in a way that drives perception.
I read a study a couple of years ago that dealt with how an idea goes from no one believing it to it becoming the dominant view in a culture.
once 15% of the population believes something new, the concept begins to take on a life of its own and even though it is a minority view, the population sees it as the majority view.
Then you add in, prog-activists going after people who do not think the way they are told to think, people just disengage. No one wants to be the pizza guy that will actually say they wont make pizzas for a gay wedding because the guy that did that got seriously burned.
Add to that Prog-activists having giant amounts of money from billionair supporters who are actually paying thousands of people to protest... and EXTEND those protests over months, then you have a perfect storm.
we have reached a point in society where one segment has figured out that in a democracy, if you control the mob, you have complete power.

Are you talking about anti vaxxers or climate change deniers?
I think something to consider is how vague and unhelpful the label conservative and liberal actually are. Two liberals can have radically different views on a lot of issues, same goes with conservatives. Not to mention that when asked this, they probably don't consider every aspect of political thought. The survey, after all, deals with what people self identify as. Libertarians often simply identify as conservative due to their opinions of fiscal policy, but many are still socially liberal or socially moderate. So something like the gay marriage ruling is a win that isn't just about those who we traditionally see as liberal (stereotypical Democrat).
There's also the ACA, but is that truly a liberal win? I have a good friend who's far more liberal/Democrat that I am who finds thinks Obamacare is a disaster, as do plenty of Democrats. Granted, some would just replace it with full on universal healthcare, but that still means the ACA isn't a win for liberals across the board.
I'd argue that it's not about liberals winning, or even Democrats. Politicians are winning. That's really about it.
Oh please, how many conservative radio shows do we have telling their followers what to do.
Both sides have drones, both sides have free thinkers.
From my experience, those who stick to party definitions are more likely to be drones while those who consider themselves independent or moderate are usually more open and thoughtful.
You can look at public opinion polling on just about any issue, and you will find the Conservative view is usually the minority view. Of course we run up against those where the poll results do not favor one's view and many go into denial mode and claim the poll is skewed.
