The only thing that really matters anymore in relation to Lee is the following:
Of the Southern born students who were in Lee's West Point class, 64% of them upheld their oath to protect and serve the United States and served in the United States military against the secessionist military of the Confederate States of America.
Lee and the 36% of his class that decided to fight for the South forsake the oath they took at West Point. The led armies who openly fired upon soldier carrying the American flag, with U.S. on their uniforms.
You can evaluate this as you like, but remember that the CSA under Lee killed more American soldiers than any foe with the exception of Germany and possibly Japan.
Just asking you to consider the following...his tomb at W&L is fine, but at the end of the day he gave up on his oath to the United States of America. There were plenty of Southerners who did not. They are the real heroes.

I thought it was the southern sympathizers who were stuck in the past?
My relatives fought and died for the north. Am I supposed to still harbor resentments against the south or southerners?
It's ridiculous. And I don't. That history is now American history and they are all Americans.
Instead of taking down confederate symbols because of something that happened here-between Americas - 150 plus years ago, we should be taking down symbols of Islam, whose murderous followers killed 3,000 innocents on 9/11 in the name of their religion and continue killing innocents in the name of their religion.

At that point he was no longer a citizen of the USA, the south had already seceded.
To me, it makes as much sense banning the Democrat Party and the American Flag as it does to ban the Confederate Flag. All 3 had leaders and supporters than promoted slavery.
