It's an iconic photo being emulated with a different flag, different cause, and different people. It in no way dishonors the original actions. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm just not seeing any disrespect. If anything, the motive of the gay pride flag picture is just unclear. I'm not really sure what it's trying to say, which means it's bad symbolism. But other than that....
The planting of the flag at Iwo Jima is significant since it meant "Liberation" during WW 2 against oppressors and these soldiers who held up that flag were fighting for freedom.Gay people see this as a symbol of honor and valor and fighting for their Constitutional rights. It is symbolic in nature.

I don't understand how this is offensive.
Not to mention that, very highly likely, they were fighting alongside gay soldiers in Iwo Jima
I have nothing against gays, and I'm actually glad that gay marriage was legalized. Maybe we won't have to hear about the activist idiots any more.
But this crap goes too far. To disrespect the sacrifice of thousands of Marines lost at Iwo, and to distort this picture for some sick homo movement garbage is disgusting. While I have nothing against gays, gay activists are another story. It is sickening crap like this that turns moderates against the gay agenda, and shows the hate behind the rainbow flag.
I hear ya. I was pro civil unions before folks had even heard of it. Next, I was pro gay marriage before Obama was. I'm glad those that were serious about it can get married now. But, the last few years of activism darn near ruined it for me.

agreed
Same here, although i still support gay marriage.
Real question is what are they using this (flag, cake, etc) to distract us from?
Real question is what are "they" using this (flag, cake, etc) to distract us from? (Emphasis added)
Economy? unemployment? war?
If you believe that those "problems" can be "solved" by surrendering more of your (or anyone else's) individuality to a central government which is already too powerful, you are part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.
The Iwo Jima photo is an iconic symbol of overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds and claiming victory after a long battle.
Unless the artist desecrated the US flag in the original photo, rational thinking individuals should not see any disrespect.
As someone earlier in this thread pointed out, the iconic image is used by everyone from protesters, to punk rockers, to unions and even what looks like a car dealership.
Adding the rainbow flag merely references the icon as a symbol of victory. It does not detract from, make fun of, or denigrate the original.
Unless you're an overly sensitive moron, of course. Then you'll be offended.
Exactly. The Iwo Jima picture was staged to be a dramatic representation of victory after a hard fight, and as such, this staging resonates with that sentiment. I don't have a problem with others who experience a similar victory staging a similar photo to express their feelings. If anything, the photographer should consider it a compliment. All great art is emulated in one way or another.
What is it I hear on this board all the time about Liberals being ruled by emotions? This continual outrage by the right over inconsequential things is actually quite amusing.

I'm sure my grandfather who fought at Iwo Jima, if he were alive today, would say 'Your welcome." He gladly fought for idiots to have the right to mock the original photo, and for those of you trying to justify the actions of what amounts to one of the most distasteful things I've ever seen.
