Seems like a lot of people on this site think #1 protects you from private consequences. It does not.

When the wife asks you if she looks fat in a dress the answer is always "no".

That's not the point. The 1st doesn't even really protect from public sector consequences anymore. The point is there is free speech and then there is PC anti-free speech.

I don't care for the argument that the 1st doesn't protect you from private actors. You wouldn't say the 4th doesn't protect you from private actors, eg, Your private sector employer suspects you of stealing and can require you to allow him to search your home.

Rush Limbaugh was going on about this this morning. Its like he thinks that speech should have no consequences. That people shouldn't shun you or your business because they find your expressed opinion repugnant.

LOL...I wonder when they will start realizing that "at work" states could start seeing them fired. Bet they will freak out then.

The Bill of Rights does not protect you from private actors. The PC idiots and us who oppose them can both legally make our views known.

So private actors are allowed to punish me cruelly and unusually? Private actors are allowed to confiscate my guns? Interesting.

No, but they are allowed to ostracize you for your opinions. And they are allowed to fire you if you are their employee.
