The San Francisco sheriff who over the summer became embroiled in a national debate over "sanctuary city" policies on Tuesday lost his bid for re-election amid a host of local controversies.

Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, 54, was defeated by Vicki Hennessy, a former sheriff's official who had the endorsement of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and the sheriff deputies association. As of early Wednesday morning, Hennessy had received 62 percent of the vote to just 31 percent for Mirkarimi.

A victory for the surviving family members of Kate Steinle. Now, if we could only fire more Democrat Senators, who are blocking Kate's Law in the Senate and protecting illegal immigrant felons who commit violent crimes.

In San Francisco nonetheless! I guess even Californians are tired of citizens being killed by illegal foreigners.

Mirkarimi lost his re-election because of his domestic violence accusations, and other scandals.

So illegal aliens (not undocumented immigrants) should have the same rights as citizens? No wonder this state is going to hell in a hand basket with liberals electing anti-American traitors such as these.

Gotta love Fox News and their misinformation that their viewers take as factual information......

This is just embarrassing and inexcusable! I'm talking about Fox News - it'd have taken them all of 2 seconds to google the sheriff to know that he was ousted because of all the scandals that happened BEFORE and... AFTER the sanctuary episode.

As I've said in another thread, anyone who make it seems like he lost the election because of voters' anger against sanctuary city is grossly misinformed and ignorant.

He was toasted with or without the sanctuary thing. To characterizes this as sanctuary city pushback is just..... dumb and dishonest.

Scandal in San Francisco, the Mirkarimi saga - Debra J. Saunders

Why do conservatives keep doing this? As if they cannot make their point without lying.

Democrats: Do you support sanctuary cities? Would you take the side of illegal immigrants in a case where a citizen was murdered? Instead of nitpicking the results, why don't you put your own views on the topic on the record.

People don't get the purpose of sanctuary city - it is NOT to protect illegal immigrants. It is to relieve local police from having to do the work of ICE officers and track down individual's citizenship.

Local police focuses on crimes and safety, leaving all the immigration stuff to ICE. It streamlines the tasks, avoid overlapping duties, avoid confusion, and everyone's clear what their jobs are.

Do I support protecting illegal immigrants?? No. I suspect most Democrats don't.

But is sanctuary cities necessary? Yes.

Sanctuary cities are NOT really sanctuary - no one is going to stop ICE from apprehending illegals and deporting them; in fact that is their job.

Look, it is a wacky city that people there like the way it is, and they are far, far, far wealthier and better educated than most of their detractors. Just relax, enjoy their software and financial services you use daily, and try not to worry about their quality of life (which is by almost any measure better than where you live).
Illegal aliens: anybody who knowingly hires their kind needs to be thrown in jail and fined. Period.

ANY cop NEEDS to have the power to arrest any KNOWN illegal alien then it's on the judges to lock up their kind before deportation and, NO bonds, either. Once word gets out Americans are serious about nailing illegals; MOST will leave the US on the double.
