Programme, launched in May, had been designed to train as many as 5,400 opposition fighters a year to battle the group.

US admits it has trained only 60 Syrians to fight ISIL - Al Jazeera English

As usual, the US is all talk and no action, and totally, totally ineffective in the Middle East!

Any wonder that Israel will end up halting Iran's nuclear plans on it's own? They would be fools to wait on the US,or even to trust us.

But they aren't the ones who flapped their lying/boastful lips pledging aid,now are they?

They will take care of themselves as they always have since becoming a state. No one has ever fought their battles, now have they?

Training Syrians or any ME'ers (besides Kurds) is not a serious way to fight ISIS. I listened to Obama's speech on the fight against ISIS (he keeps calling it ISIL) and I was ready to puke. He emphasized the number of "innocent civilians." We cannot fight a serious war in a surgical manner. War by its nature is bloody.

I also think if "innocent civilians" are killed or their lives disrupted maybe they won't be so hospitable to ISIS,and make life dangerous for them. After all WW II didn't stop until Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki showed their respective populations that war could be inconvenient for them. I think we have to get out of a habit we started with Vietnam and start focusing on winning, not being loved.

America can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag,as proven by the fact we have never won a modern war without using nukes! I believe it's because we can't win fighting someone else's war in their country, not our own.

Vietnam whipped everyone's butt! How many different nations sent soldiers there to fight them? I know the French and Australians did.

How many thousands of Iraqis did we train, equip, and pay? The vast majority of them turned tail and ran when ISIS came. This whole ISIS affair is none of our concern. Let the nations/people in the area deal with it.

Is the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) another invention of the West?

The US, IS and the conspiracy theory sweeping Lebanon - BBC News

This BBC article (see link above for full article) makes for interesting reading - it investigates whether the United States is behind the creation of the Islamic State group (formerly known as Isis, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and Hillary Rodham Clinton admitted it in her book Hard Choices.
