Thank you for pointing this out. People are often uncomfortable hearing (or reading) the truth. Colorism is very widespread amongst black males. Many (not all) do select partnerships solely on the basis of the woman's color. A number of black males will admit that the lighter the woman, the greater her perceived value.
Marriage however should not be based on this. But if a man chooses to marry a woman due to her color, he should at least seek out someone compatible and not simply pair up with anyone just because they are mixed-race or white.
Every group or demographic has their superficial likes and preferences in their mates. Appearance is what generally captures someone's attention first.
White males generally prefer blondes over brunettes, white women tend to prefer dark haired and dark featured men, black women tend to prefer taller and men lighter than themselves...why would black men be any different?
So I'm going to sit here and believe you know every black man's opinion and that Black community and Muslim communities are the same? I was born at night but not last night.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, but I've said in an earlier post in this thread that white men who have gotten over the basic issue of race don't have an issue with skin color. A white man might be racist, but one who is not racist is unlikely to be a "colorist."
Well in Chicagoland there is alot black guys with white women. My high school is very diverse. It is more open for interracial.Plus I am nerdy so that turns on men.
I thought that was the sweetest commercial. We are pretty disconnected from TV for good moral reasons. What I saw, in the world I was in, was that the interracial couples were from similar backgrounds, education, etc. They were simply seeking someone with the same values, morals, etc and that person just happened to be of a different race.
I have heard educated black women on TV say they were interested in white men for reasons that had to do with income and education, not really race at all.
All races have trash and the trash always makes the news and gets people's attention. There are mixed race families like the one in that commercial and I have known them.
Also, although I skipped the middle of the thread since I am making lunch, how on earth did the topic go from biracial children as a product of a black man and white woman, not married to be critical of black men for getting divorced? So, what are the expectations? Maybe the black men are marrying, the families put so much pressure on the couple that eventually, the marriage ends in divorce. Don't think that would happen? You haven't been paying attention to the attitude of some here.
My older son is married to an Asian woman and I warned him that he would have to put up with a lot of crap from others over this. He is an officer in the military and I know it can't be easy. He was taught that race was not a defining characteristic of what a person was. I know that I gave him the "tools" to be independent and not give a thought to what others would say. Yes, I am sure that you think she only married him to get his money. Well, she works a full-time job at the VA Hospital and a part-time job as a caregiver for an elderly individual in addition to be a great wife and mother for the last 11 years.

When I saw the commercial, I initially didn't get the joke. I thought "why is he on the couch"? It turns out he was having Cheerios put over what was suppose to be his heart. I was cute to see a daughter care about her father. Another part of the commercial is to see how important the father was. Want to keep dad healthy? Give him Cheerios.
I've been someone disconnected from television for a while. No cable in my house and much of what's on is not that good.
One thing about people who are seeking a genuine relationship, who are in it for the long haul, they don't get as much attention as those who do dumb things. I agree that there is trash in every race. And the trash gets so much attention its ridiculous.
From the beginning, this topic was made about Black men.
In mentioning the military, one thing can be said of this. When one's life is in danger, when one is facing the enemy, it doesn't matter the color of the person next to them. Everyone is green and fighting for the same thing.
I've never been in a romantic relationship. However, I would say this. At the end of the day, any woman I date or marry, I am going home to her, not to society, to her. If said persons do not pay my bills or provide a home for me, then it isn't their business. That is one way to look at independent thinking. Your son being aware of how hard things might be, and at the same time, making it work out, it shows strength.

I think that tide is turning.Colorism is fading. White people were obsessed with Lupita when she broke out. People wanted her go out with Jared Leto because a joke he made. I know some of white men who loved get with Beyoncé.
I have a theory as to WHY so many White women have out of Wedlock children by Black Fathers. And go ahead and send me all the Hate mail you want. It isn't going to bother me a bit. LOL.
My Theory: There is a stereotype that all Black Men have HUGE Penises. Naturally curiosity makes many Women (not just White Women) want to check this MYTH out. Of course many Black guys (not all, but some) know this and will take advantage of it. Not many Men of any Race want to support an accident from a one night stand for eighteen years.
I think it's generally an income/class issue. Normally the white women that I see with out of wedlock children are generally poor. It really doesn't matter if their children are mixed or not. The white women who's education and income extend beyond the norm generally have children in wedlock from my experience--that includes mixed children. Black women on the otherhand--seem to have children out of wedlock regardless of income or education.
I AM seeing more white men with AA and biracial women. Maybe I just notice it more because both my biracial daughters are married to white guys - I don't know. But honestly, I do think it's on the rise, and that's great by me. Why should ANY person be limited in their dating or mating choices simply because of the color of peoples' skin?
