Unlike the USA, Canada did not call for independence from the UK. The British parliament felt that if they didn't create a country out of Canada, the USA, newly reinvigorated by ending it's civil war, would simply annex the territory. But the USA would honor the rights of a sovereign nation.

So far the USA has honored those rights.

^^^Well said, danielj.

I would say the premise of the thread makes America look bad, but the majority of replies, and poll results show something different.

I hope my post doesn't come off wrong. It was more of a "united WE stand", kind of thing. lol

We tried to lop off the bottom half of Canada in 1812 and it didn`t work out very well. No point in trying to do it again.

Conservative warmongers always plotting on the next sovereign country to invade.

Their military is pathetic. It wouldn't be too hard to invade and take it over.

I kbow many Canadians.... this topic is more lunacy than anything else. Canadian culture and values are closely aligned with Americans but in many ways different and in my opinion better.

Their military has similar capabilities to ours, however it is just smaller reflecting the smaller population to support it. Most major NATO powers like Canada, US, Britain etc have much of the same military hardware and they train together. The quality of the Canadian armed forces is similar to ours in spite of its size.

as stupid as this thread is, ...,The rest of the Commonwealth would not sit idly by either. UK, Australia, NZ etc.... And seeing that the U.S. relies on these nations in other invasions, it'd be a bad move, all round.

Well, considering the French heritage, Quebec may very well surrender at the first sight of a rifle.

But, why stop at Canada, can we annex every country in the world to achieve world domination? <evil laugh>
