And this is probably exactly how they think of us annexing them.
And as a sovereign nation, why shouldn't they? What country with their own identity wants to be "annexed" by another nation? I think that the current arrangement is working out just fine.

Moreover, it's a recipe for disaster to violently and undemocratically annex a neighbouring country unless you basically enslave the populace, as otherwise the inevitable minority of angry former Canadians inclined to do so could just cross into the States and cause mischief. And lets not even talk about how pissed the Quebecois in particular would be. Canada is a controversial project there, but at least one that they've participated in and been a part of building since the very beginning, one that Quebec is foudationally part of. The United States would be totally unacceptable especially if imposed by force, and I don't think the people of the US have an appetite for insurrection on their own continent. The whole things sounds like a very unstable and problematic set up no matter how you frame it, at the end of the day you can't just force huge changes on two countries using violence and expect a happy outcome.
It seems as if there could be quite a bit to gain if the U.S were to annex Canada, although it would certainly be controversial.
why would we want to?
there is not much that I would want from them other than the hunting and fishing.
their political system is not the best and not much else that is there. plus the fact that the USA would end up having another war that it can ill afford to pay for.
Annex Canada? Let me get this straight, you mean invade them and take them over or send them an invitation to join our country just because it would be so cool? Maybe you should ask Canada what they think of that "brilliant" proposal. Wow! I will say that maybe we should annex an area to send some of our "best and brightest" to move to.
I tell you what, if Hillary wins in '16 I would love to see Canada annex Minnesota. We have more in common with Canadians than we do with Californians, I guarantee you that much.
Well in the future I foresee there being wars for resources; in particular the U.S against China. The U.S will want to protect the Alaskan oil pipeline hosted on Canadian land, for when the Chinese will eventually get desperate enough for resources they'll try to invade Alaska for the oil.
I think you worry too much. Why not pour yourself a cup of tea with a bit of honey and contemplate your navel for a while?
Seriously OP? There's been times I've been so disgusted by the Teapublicans that I've wished Canada would annex the PNW but Canada has absolutely no reason to be annexed by the US. They don't need us.
Exactly how does the OP expect this "annexation" of Canada to take place? Hand written letter, a referendum or maybe an evite? I'm just trying to shed some light on the darkness here.
